Quicksilver never fails to impress. I just ran across this excellent tip on macosxhints.com for setting little timed reminders to yourself. There are a plethora of little egg timer type applications for OS X, but why bother with one of those when you can do this in Quicksilver? Suppose you want to set a little text reminder like the one above to yourself to go off in 15 minutes. With this little tip you can set Quicksilver to pop up a reminder at any given time, or after any given delay. Big TUAW 'attaboy to mcgraths for discovering this. Read on for a full mini-tutorial.[Via Digg]

Filed in our "pretty nifty" folder, this desktop application will place a countdown timer to the Wii's launch in plain view, to be ogled by all the computer-using fanboys in the vicinity. We understand that not all of you may sit in front of a huge clock, just staring for hours, for fear of making the almost-criminal amount of time left until the console's launch go that much slower, as well as just plain old having better things to do, so that's why we bring you links to cool things like this. It's kind of our thing. For those of you on Macs and in other regions: Europe Japan Australia United States [Update: Added in links for countdown clocks in other regions than the US for Mac users. Thanks Vidar!]

It's summertime, folks, which means funtime summery stuff like blankets, beach balls -- even bikinis -- get upgrades. Though not the first of its kind, the $190 Solestrom UV-metering bikini, which happens to look like something straight out of a Bond film, tells you where the sun's at on the UV scale from 0 to 20 and when you're done crisping -- which for pale n' pasty pushovers such as ourselves is pretty much as soon as we walk outside. And do deposit that wagging tongue, gentlemen; titillating though this post may be, we aim keep it clean 'round these parts.[Thanks, Michael]

Gawker, the clever app for recording, sharing and combining time-lapse movies, has been updated to version 0.70 with some unique features. It is now compatible with non-iSight cameras, including even DV cameras, and can record from up to four cameras simultaneously (when you consider the power of using other cameras through Bonjour, this gets pretty interesting). The ability to capture desktops as well as a countdown timer have also been added.Gawker is an open source project and available from its home at SourceForge.

If you have one of those jobs that requires to you track just how much time you spend on a given task (or if you're just a compulsive nut), check out The Daily Grind. It's a Dashboard widget that lets you start several individual timers, and give a custom name to each one. Plus, you can copy the results of any timer to the clipboard with a click. Pretty cool.
