  • Updated Verizon Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean binaries added to AOSP

CDMA variants are, invariably, the redheaded stepchildren of the Nexus line. That is to say, those units nearly always trail behind their GSM counterparts where updates and official support are concerned. But it appears Google's picking up the pace, having just released the latest Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (JRO03H) binaries for Verizon-branded handsets three weeks after welcoming Toro devices back into AOSP. What does this mean for the average user? Not much, since there's no real way to gauge whether or not this signals an imminent carrier-sanctioned OTA rollout, although it does bode well for those prospects. But for rooted users, the new addition is a boon, as it should pave the way for devs to cook up even more stable ROMs for your flashing enjoyment. So, that's the good news. The bad? Well, if you're on the Sprint side of the LTE Nexus divide, your handset's still not invited back to the party -- indefinitely.

The roster in Sony's mascot mashup, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, has grown by two more fighters. Heihachi Mishima from Namco Bandai's Tekken series, and Toro, cartoonish marketing feline for Sony Japan, have both been confirmed for launch (on October 23) by Sony during an EVO 2012 presentation. In addition to the new characters, a new stage called Dojo has been revealed. Dojo (depicted above) is inspired by Chop Chop Master Onion's stomping/chopping grounds, as seen in Parappa the Rapper.Update: The PlayStation Blog has posted videos of both characters, which we've embedded below the break.

Perhaps not as fitting an announcement as Cole McGrath duking it out in Street Fighter X Tekken on the PlayStation Vita, Sony has announced the inclusion of another mascot -- one who's too cute to have its face punched, we might add. Toro, a cartoon character popular in Japan (also known as Sony Cat) has been confirmed for the lineup during Sony's pre-TGS briefing. Kuro, his neighbor in the toons, will also be playable. American audiences will be able to enjoy the PSP enhanced version of Disgaea 2 later this year. However, gamers in Japan are already getting ready for some free (and paid) DLC content for the game. As usual, Nippon Ichi is preparing post-release DLC. The most surprising addition to Disgaea 2 comes through a collaboration with Sony: Mainichi Issho's Toro and Kuro can both be added to the game. The two Sony mascots are relatively unknown here in the States, but the felines are quite beloved by players on the other side of the pond. The two cats will be ready to hand special items to players, so keep an eye out for them! It would be nice if NIS America decided to include this DLC content as part of the retail release in the States. However, considering the DLC for Disgaea 3, that's unlikely. Are you looking for something to put next to your alarm clock, MP3 charge station, PS3, or other eclectic figurine collections? Perhaps Sony's new Japanese mascot, Toro, will fit nicely amongst your other strange goods from the land of the rising sun. Toro's friends are also available for your collecting urges. If you've ever ventured onto the Japanese PS Store, you've probably seen this cat in a bunch of different places. It was the first game to feature customizable soundtracks, if we remember correctly. Anyway, the figure comes with detachable faces that can represent how you feel that day. Or how you wish you felt.
