  • Transformers: War for Cybertron 2 confirmed for 2012

Transformers: War for Cybertron was surprisingly ... well, good. In fact, it was so good that there are plans for a follow-up. "This is the most highly-rated, critical success of any game that's had the Hasbro brand yet," Mark Blecher, SVP and General Manager of Digital Media & Gaming, said during an investors call earlier this week, according to IGN. "We're looking forward to a sequel in 2012." The 2012 date makes it likely to be a different game than the previously-teased release for 2011. Considering Activision's penchant for annualized franchises, we're not particularly surprised. [Thanks, Shockwave!]

  • Google Zeitgeist 2009 shows year's top game searches

We would never call you out on your love for whatever crappy thing it is that you love but, guys, you're using Google wrong. Its recent Zeitgeist 2009 report shows what the most popular gaming term searches of this year have been and the results are pretty surprising. At the top spot is Ghostbusters, which is fine by us -- it was a pretty big deal when it was announced and it sold a lot of copies, so naturally folks were interested. But, as we delve deeper into the top 10, the search terms become a bit more interesting. The next three terms -- "ufc" "saw" and "bakugan" -- really threw us for a loop. Saw? Really? Bakugan? What is that, a gun that uses evil Japanese spirits for ammo? Actually, that sounds pretty cool.Further into the list, we see that Batman: Arkham Asylum managed to put a batarang in the fifth spot, much lower than we'd like, but we can live with that -- however, coming in at the sixth spot is Twilight. Guys! Vampires. Do. Not. Sparkle. Seventh was FIFA 2010, followed by Modern Warfare in eighth. The ninth spot belonged to Transformers 2, which we must admit has one of this year's best performances by a human male, so that seems okay. Finally, Resident Evil 5 rounded out the list in last place.

  • Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time?

The first week numbers are in and they're pretty good -- Michael Bay's latest movie moved 500,000 Blu-ray Discs in one day and a total of 1.2 Million for the week. Now we didn't go back and compare that to previous years, but that is without a doubt the best week any Blu-ray title has had this year, so we'd assume its safe to say this is the best selling Blu-ray title of all time -- in its first week anyways. Love it or hate it, there were plenty of people willing to run out the first week and buy this movie. This has to ease the minds of Paramount execs at least a little bit. Too bad for Hollywood that this will probably be as good as it gets this year, although we admit the movies we're looking forward to on Blu-ray still remain unreleased.

  • New movie-themed Elite bundles for the UK

VideoGamer.com is reporting that a supplement in this week's issue of MCV is advertising two new Xbox 360 Elite bundles. Both bundles are themed around recent movie releases, specifically Star Trek and Transformers 2. The Star Trek bundle comes with an extra controller, a copy of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek stored on a USB drive -- shaped like the Star Fleet logo -- as well as 800 with which to buy "Star Trek PDLC." Let's just hope you don't have to waste those points on Star Trek D-A-C. A Transformers 2 bundle is in the works as well, featuring an extra controller, a copy of the movie on a Bumblebee-shaped USB drive and the Transformers 2 game. Release date, pricing, and the size of the included hard drive (120GB or "Super Elite" 250GB) are not specified in the ad. However, as MCV is a UK magazine, it's possible these are only destined for that region. We'd be hard-pressed to tell potential buyers which one bundle is the better but, but we will say that only one of them goes where no one has gone before. And the other one is Transformers.

Oh man do we just love this time of year, not only are the super hot days of summer over, but Football is here and now the big blockbuster movies are hitting Blu-ray. And of the big movies for 2009, none is bigger than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which hits Blu-ray tomorrow -- actually if you really can't wait, you can go to Best Buy at midnight tonight and pick it up. We can't say we blame 'em, but the rest of the studios pretty much let Paramount make this Transformers week as there really isn't anything else out there to get excited about. That's ok though, because in the next 12 weeks there should be plenty to choose from. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Paramount) UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir (Starz/Anchor Bay) Waterworld (Universal) Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead (Fox) Blood: The Last Vampire (Sony) Easy Rider (Sony) The Crew (Image) Ichi the Killer (Tokyo Shock) Monsoon Wedding (Criterion) The Secret of the Nutcracker (BFS)

Following an apparently successful Game with Fame session with actress Megan Fox, Activision has announced that the developers behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will take on the community themselves this Friday. Excited? Well, there's a catch: The devs at Luxoflux will only be online playing the recently released Character & Map Pack Plus DLC, meaning interested gamers will have to throw down 800 ($10) to square off against the team. Of course, if you already own the DLC you're welcome to jump in this Friday, September 4, from 5PM to 9PM (Eastern) and participate in punching giant robots in the face. You know, kind of the same way Michael Bay punched our soul by making those two terrible movies. Check out the official Xbox.com page for a listing of Gamertags to friend request for the event.

Only those who rose (sigh) up to Microsoft's annual $50 multiplayer fee will find themselves in the online company of Megan Fox next week, when she plays Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen exclusively against Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The actress, self-outed Wii fan and professional runner-from-explosions will expect you to promptly log in by 5:30PM ET on Saturday, August 29 -- the session kicks off at 6PM sharp! In the meantime, you'll want to send a friend request to the following very real Gamertag: Megan Fox 2009. Please, don't be upset if you don't hear back right away. She probably needs to trim her friends list a bit to make room for you.

Hope you liked The Dark Knight's treatment of its shot-for-IMAX scenes, as it may be a trend. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen director (and Blu-ray fan for life) Michael Bay has stated that among other unspecified extras, the disc release will see similar frame filling transfers that let viewers see top to bottom. This is your chance to be heard, are you a fan, or just want everything in one aspect ratio?

  • Transformers Edition LG Versa hands-on!

There isn't much left to say about LG's Versa that we haven't already said, but we've gotta say that this limited edition Transformers one is pretty sweet. The custom battery cover has a cool themed motif with the movie's logo and Optimus Prime himself (itself?) and release date along the bottom, while the keyboard attachment has a reflective Transformers logo on the front and more branding on the back. The device itself has been customized with backgrounds and a new startup / shutdown image, but otherwise this thing's pretty standard. The coolest part may be the box itself, which is seemingly inspired by the Allspark, and is made out of metal and covered with glyphs like those seen in the film. Be sure to check out the gallery to see this thing up close and personal, and stay tuned for you chance to win this limited edition device in the near future!

  • Oh no! Megan Fox is totally into the Wii

It seems as though there are dissenting voices coming from the cast of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen regarding Nintendo's Wii console. Why, just the other day, Shia LaBeouf expressed to the world his discontent with the system and those employing it for gaming -- that group of people apparently including his cast mate, Megan Fox. In an interview with WhatTheyPlay.com, Fox said, "I'm totally a fan of the Wii, I'm just not good at it." As LaBeouf (S. Beef to us) noted in his interview with Joystiq sister site Big Download, the two were playing LEGO Star Wars most recently, though Fox has some rather specific complaints about the game, telling the interviewer, "One thing I don't like about that game is that if one person is lagging behind and wants to check something out, and you're running ahead, you drag the screen with you -- you can't stay separate when you're playing on a team together ... that becomes annoying." Point taken! Apparently the lady knows her games, eh? Care for a guest column, Ms. Fox?

  • Transformers Blu-ray owners get an early peek at the sequel via BD-Live

So many months later, new downloadable content is arriving for those Transformers Blu-ray discs, with Paramount planning to unleash a ton of promotional content for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen on June 16. Owners of the DVD version can use their access key to log on to a special website, while BD-Live connected Blu-ray owners can view the 25~ minutes of special features directly through their players. Video Business wonders if Blu-ray owners without BD-Live will be able to log in to the website but hasn't heard back yet, we'd ask there will be any treats for HD DVD but Michael Bay probably put the kibosh on that.Read - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Sneak Peek via Blu-ray and DVDRead - Paramount loads Transformers with sequel specials

  • Production Chevy Volt interior and exterior spy shots leaked?

We've seen GM's carefully managed Volt PR campaign, but that hasn't stopped our friends at AutoBlogGreen from combing the net for a better look, resulting in these apparent snaps of the center console and the production exterior rolling along the set of Transformers 2. The shiny, rounded all white center console with touch sensitive interface? You're probably thinking what we're thinking. At least the exterior shot -- which shows off a "Volt" badge on the A-pillar -- is a bit more clear. Of course, this might just be a movie-only iteration and any number of things could change before those batteries get out of Malibus and into proper rolling stock... but we'll just sit back and keep our fingers crossed, at least until 2010.Read - Chevy Volt InteriorRead - Chevy volt Exterior
