PAIN Trophies made easier, thanks to AXE
PAIN has some of the worst Trophies ever. However, things are going to get oh-so-slightly easier for PAIN veterans thanks to an unlikely partnership with AXE. (Yes, the deodorant company.) A new character, "Smooth Jarvis," will get a brand new set of AXE-inspired moves that will net you bonus points. These bonus points, in turn, can be helpful in unlocking PAIN's "Affliction Addiction," "D-Town Destruction," and "PAIN in the Park" Trophies. We're certainly fans of this kind of in-game advertising (versus what WipEout HD offered). But, we beg the guys at Idol Minds: please make the "King of PAIN" Trophy easier. Please!
SCEA expands Trophy functionality of PlayStation.com
Trophy hunters now have a valuable new resource to use in their quest to increase their PS3 XP. The Trophies functionality of the official US PlayStation site will be expanded this week to include features currently available on the European site. The most significant addition is a live-updated Portable ID which allows gamers to proudly display their PlayStation level and number of Trophies. The compact image can be embedded on almost any website and will be updated automatically with data from the PSN. Those that have been manually adding Trophy data to third-party websites can now take it easy.Additionally, players will now be able to compare Trophies with other PSN IDs on PlayStation.com. Players will be able to track progress to the next level against friends, making Trophy-hunting more of a competitive game. And finally, new sorting features will make browsing a Trophy list much easier than before, making it even more clear what players must do to get the always-elusive Platinum Trophy.See a video of the new features after the break.%Gallery-69890%
Vote for your favorite Assassin's Creed 2 achievement
On its official forum, Ubisoft is giving gamers the chance to vote for a future Achievement/Trophy in Assassin's Creed 2 -- otherwise known as one of the few games not delayed into 2010. The choices are: "The Taste of Revenge" -- Kill X Brutes (heavy guard) "Weapon Master" -- Use all weapons at least once "Victory Lies in Preparation" -- Get all available upgrades for Ezio "Mighty Traveler" -- Travel X kilometers within the game Currently, "Victory Lies in Preparation" is leading the pack with 45% of the vote. While the available choices are your garden variety in-game accomplishments, the contest gives gamers a chance to participate in the wonderful world of game development! Seriously. Look for your name in the credits ... it will totally be there. Voting ends August 17, so get to it.
Kojima Productions 'not ignoring' Trophy requests
There's only one thing some people want more than a brand new Metal Gear Solid game -- and that's a Trophy patch for Metal Gear Solid 4. Kojima Production's premiere PS3 game launched over a year ago, long before Sony required the addition of achievements to all games. The latest Kojima Productions podcast talked a little bit more about Trophies: "I just wanna tell everybody out there right now that your voices are being heard and that we're not ignoring you. We hear everything that you are saying. It's just that we can't say anything just yet. But as soon as we have something to say, we will announce it. So, if we can just ask everyone to be patient, we will give you an answer."We're not exactly sure what's taking so long to announce whether or not the team is working on a patch. A one word answer -- a "yes" or "no" -- would certainly appease those that have been anxiously waiting.[Via The Examiner]
Sony wants to say 'P.S. Thanks'
Yet another trademark has got the gaming community talking. SCEA filed a trademark application (#77794416) for a serviced called "P.S. Thanks." Considering this is a Sony trademark, we'll let you figure out what "P.S." could possibly stand for.According to the application, "P.S. Thanks" is meant to be an "incentive rewards program geared toward quantifying, identifying and motivating top consumer base with the goal of promotion and sale of video game hardware and software." In short, Sony wants to create a PlayStation loyalty program.IGN hypothesizes a few possibilities. The service could be a program akin to Club Nintendo that awards frequent buyers with rewards. (Most recently, top-tier Club Nintendo members were awarded an exclusive downloadable game, calendar, and Mario hat.) "P.S. Thanks" could also refer to a Trophy reward program, one that has been rumored since the inception of Trophies in the PS3 firmware. Certainly, that's something a-certain-someone would love to see. Update: SCEA offers a comment: "As you know, we have a long history of creating unique loyalty programs such as PlayStation Underground which started with the original PlayStation and has evolved into the Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP). We continue to look for ways to expand this program and simply are evaluating new naming conventions for this evolution."[Thanks, Jeff B.]
