Filmmaker Kevin Smith once responded to the negative reviews of his heartfelt drama Jersey Girl by stating that the film "wasn't for critics." It was a comment that attracted the attention of Penny Arcade, and even spawned some of their most memorable characters. So imagine how our favorite webcomic entrepreneurs will react to the recent comments made by Spark Unlimited CEO Craig Allen, who believes that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is being reviewed the wrong way.Responding to recent unfavorable reviews of Turning Point, Allen stated that the game was never meant for "core gamers," and that those looking at the title with a critical eye are not the intended audience. According to him, the alternate-universe World War II FPS is a "high concept idea," enjoyable by those who just want to have fun, and aren't looking for innovation or technical breakthroughs.Despite his defense of the title, Allen states the team's next game, Legendary, will address many of the problems gamers and critics had with Turning Point, but it won't necessarily be a "better" game. Because Turning Point wasn't actually "bad." Apparently.

Codemasters are bringing us another sweet-looking game. We posted a teaser trailer for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty a while back and weren't particularly impressed, but this new footage detailing in-game action gets us all warm and fuzzy inside. Take the Freedom Fighters attributes of New York, a civilian, and starting an uprising, mix in a little of the Resistance: Fall of Man alternate timeline excitement and you've got yourself a new FPS that will deliver something fairly different to the table than we're used to. What do you guys think?

Today, publisher Codemasters coyly released details confirming that their upcoming WWII Nazi shooter Turning Point: Fall of Libtery will not make its slated November 2007 release. No reasons were given for the delay, but we suspect the typical developer can't get the work done in said time frame conflict. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is now penciled in for an early 2008 retail release. And as a way of making up for their unforseen delay, Codemasters put out a new Turning Point trailer embedded above. We always knew those Nazis had beef with the Statue of Liberty.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty finally has a trailer up, and while it's just a cinematic, we love the whole alternate history angle. Sure, it's Nazis all over again, but this time they've hung a banner on the Statue of Liberty. What NYC cab driver could possibly stand for that? It's unclear if you'll be playing this character throughout the game, and the subtitle of the game, "Fall of Liberty" hints at a possible franchise. At least it's not Generic WWII Game #487, and it's also from Spark, who knows how to do the war genre right. Here's hoping they can keep it fresh and fun ... so far fighting an invasion in 1940s New York sounds like a decent start.

First off, this guy chose a really inopportune time to take a nap in his cab. Secondly, he's a pretty competent fighter, real level-headed and whatnot. Third, we're excited to see another "alternate WWII" plotline. Instead of aliens invading, like Resistance, this game has ... aliens invading the US. Illegal aliens, called Nazis. They are most unwelcome, with their parachutes and tanks and battleships! It's up to you to push them out of the United States and hopefully rid the pests from the face of the earth altogether. The game is shaping up nicely, but let's hope Codemasters keep the quality control up and give us a great experience!
