Did you know Samsung was still making non-3G devices for Verizon? True story. Take this here SCH-u430, for example, a brand new flip (that we've actually known about for a while) featuring Bluetooth, 160 x 128 internal and 96 x 96 external displays, a VGA cam, and that's about it. Notably absent from the feature list is EV-DO, meaning that if you're looking for a tethering partner or an awesome way to download music on the cheap, the u430 is no friend of yours. Of course, considering that it's free on contract, we can't complain too hard, can we?

It's truly difficult to fathom what takes a carrier so long to launch a basic, feature-barren flip once they've managed to take the time to put press shots together, but alas, this is the first we've heard of the u430 since all the way back in June. We're hearing the holdup at this point is simply Verizon's desire to clear out u410 stock first -- so if you're anxious to get your paws on a brand spanking new Sammy flip with a VGA cam, Bluetooth, and not bloody much else, you might want hang on for a hot minute or two.

There's nothing quite like leaked information on a phone expected to be given away for free on contract to get the blood pumping, is there? It turns out that the freshly FCC-approved SCH-u430 from Samsung will end up replacing the lowly u410, offering the same VGA camera and 160 x 128 primary display as its predecessor but enjoying a restyled shell that should at least get an occasional glance from passers-by in the Verizon store. Or maybe not -- there always seem to be at least a few models available for free after rebates and whatnot, and we're struggling to see what would attract anyone to this particular model. Brand loyalty or that trick analog clock display, perhaps? No word on official pricing (geez, it better be free) or an availability date yet.
