  • Where in Warcraft: The difficulty ratchets higher

If you're going to keep getting these right within such a short time of my posting them, you're asking for it. I won't stand for this! So let's see if this one isn't quite so easy. I'm kind of hoping it isn't -- and if it's too hard, well, I'll come back again and make it easier. But somehow I doubt it will be too hard, knowing you people, and next week I'll find myself trying to make it harder again. The very first commenter, Deyoue, got the right answer first for the last picture, and an honorable mention goes out to SamLarrimore for expanding on Deyoue's description with coordinates and somewhat enhanced directions. But Deyoue had it first -- big congratulations to you, Deyoue. I tip my hat to you and your WoW exploration knowledge! This week's Where in Warcraft image, as you might notice, has been somewhat doctored. It comes to us in its raw courtesy of Xelophant of Bloodhoof (US). Thanks very much, Xelophant; I loved this suggestion. For this week's answers, I'm looking for the exact location, and I have to be able to find my way to the location via your description. As ever, your guesses have to be in a new comment to be counted, not in a reply (or it's impossible for me to tell whether or not the chicken preceded the egg!). Good luck -- not that you'll need it! There's so much in Azeroth (and Outland!) just waiting to be found. Tip us off. If you've found a fabulously quirky landmark, hidden treasure, or special hideaway somewhere in Warcraft, drop me a line at olivia@wowinsider.com with your screenshot. You could be featured in a future edition of Where in Warcraft!

  • Where in Warcraft: The difficult balance edition

It is a difficult balance, you know, writing a guessing game like this. It's a bit like the difficult balance facing developers of computer games. You don't want to make a challenge so utterly impossible that the majority of people feel excluded, but neither do you want to make it so easy that everyone guesses it within a few seconds! But who am I kidding -- I'm not Blizzard! I am, however, impressed with your speed and accuracy in guessing the last Where in Warcraft installment. DavidSikes, almost to my annoyance, had it within moments of posting! Good job, DavidSikes. You win a cave near Ahn'Qiraj and the respect of the girl who writes this feature. (The last one is a rather dubious reward, let me tell you.) Anyhow, as the Foo Fighters sang in All My Life, on, on, on to the next one. The above screenshot was kindly submitted by Trakand of The Maelstrom (EU). Thanks very much, Trakand. And before you yell "faction bias," this scene is out in the world for anyone to find. And that's all I'm saying about it. Or it'll be guessed in all of three seconds again. So you know the rules: I have to be able to find my way to this location with your instructions. I'm also adding a new rule to avoid situations like we had a while ago: Your guess has to be in a new post, not a reply to another post. Otherwise, it's impossible for me to know who guessed first! That leads to unfair decisions, and nobody likes those. In other news, in England, Where's Waldo? is called Where's Wally? There's so much in Azeroth (and Outland!) just waiting to be found. Tip us off. If you've found a fabulously quirky landmark, hidden treasure, or special hideaway somewhere in Warcraft, drop me a line at olivia@wowinsider.com with your screenshot. • Where in Warcraft: Oh, it's so on!

Right. So the last edition of Where in Warcraft I thought was a little bit harder. None of my WoW-playing friends knew where it was just from the picture -- but you, WoW Insider readers, you're just too darn good! The first correct response was from Marcscgm, who correctly identified the chap's final resting place south of Forge Camp Fear and west of Oshugun, even going so far as to provide coordinates! Well done there, that man! I salute you for your Nagrand knowledge and would like to present you with a ceremonial book and wine goblet, with a lovely rock plinth to enjoy them on. But it seems we need to get far more serious here, people. You know your way around too well, and it's just no fun if it isn't difficult (well, no fun for me, anyhow!). I want to be the diabolical quizmaster, OK? So, this next edition represents a little jump up in difficulty; we're creeping up gradually. As the title suggests, it's so on! I will find a place nobody gets, eventually! This submission is from the lovely Eiji, and it's a cave. Oh, yes. I went there. A cave with a rock outside it with a paladin on it. No more clues! And I loved the suggestion of blocking out parts of the picture! If I'm not successful in my attempts to confound you, I will definitely start doing that. So a recap: Guessing an entire zone is no good. I have to be able to find my way to this location with your directions. Coordinates are great, but not a requirement! Happy hunting. There's so much in Azeroth (and Outland!) just waiting to be found. Tip us off. • Carmen Sandiego heading to Hollywood

Carmen Sandiego is ready to steal Hollywood (she already stole the sign in 1985). Walden Media is working on a big-screen adaptation of the educational series, with Jennifer "From the Block" Lopez producing and possibly starring. The story will be penned by Darren Lemke, who wrote Shrek Forever After and the coming Jack the Giant Killer. One should take this to mean it will be a family-friendly film and not an edgy reinterpretation of the master thief. The plot of the movie, according to THR, involves Carmen Sandiego's turn from the greatest detective at the ACME agency to infamous criminal. When her former colleague tries to hunt her down, he uncovers a conspiracy and "questions whether Carmen is a really a thief -- or a hero."Walden is looking for the Carmen Sandiego film to be a cross between The Thomas Crown Affair and National Treasure. As long as Rockapella is in it, we don't care if it's a cross between Heat and The Italian Job. Also, Rockapella, hit it:

  • MMO Family: The state of the game (at school)

When you think of kids and video games, the question that always comes up is this: What are they getting out of playing them? Usually, MMOs, even MMOs aimed at kids, are big on fun but light on learning. So it was refreshing to see teacher Ben Bertoli launch a Kickstarter project to promote development of his personal project ClassRealm into what could be a potentially valuable tool in the classroom. So why haven't we seen more educational MMOs, and why has there been a gap when it comes to technology at home vs. at school? In this week's MMO Family, we'll look a few issues with gaming and learning.

Apparently Jennifer Lopez (J Lo, as you may call her) is going to produce a film version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. We know nothing about the film, but it gave NMA.tv an excuse to drum up a mock trailer (complete with Rockapella reference), and that's all that matters.

  • Report: Zoo Tycoon dev Blue Fang lays off dev staff

First Black Rock, then Red Fly, and now Blue Fang: a really depressing theme is presenting itself today. Blue Fang Games, developer of Zoo Tycoon and the Facebook Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego games, is in the process of laying off "the entirety of its development staff," according to a statement Gamasutra received from a source. Gamasutra's anonymous source said that the layoffs total around 15 people, similar to those that hit the company in 2009. The company is reportedly continuing to look for new work, but told the laid-off employees the odds are not good, and, as the source said, "it is more prudent to find new positions." Best of luck to all affected -- and stay away from companies with colors in their names for a while.

  • 'Oregon Trail' and 'Carmen Sandiego' coming to Facebook in Feb.

Please excuse us if a bit too much childlike excitement comes through in today's news that fresh takes on The Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? will be released for Facebook early next month. Next-Gen.biz spotted a note revealing the two titles on developer Darius Kazemi's personal blog, where he expressed his own childlike excitement to have worked on them. "I loved both of these games as a kid (my favorites were Where in Space...? and Where in the USA...?), and one of the main reasons I took the job at Blue Fang was to get a chance to work on these awesome titles," Kazemi gushed. Even better, trailers for both can be found after the break, revealing a bit about the titles' respective gameplay, as well as their launch dates -- February 2 for The Oregon Trail (with hunting, yes!) and February 9 for Carmen Sandiego. And both games, we must add, look totally awesome. We're starting to get worried about this whole "Facebook" thing.%Gallery-115170%
