Here's a blast from the past for you: Halo MMO. The project from Ensemble studios -- codenamed Titan -- left a lot of disappointed fans when Ensemble closed and development was canceled. We've not heard much from that area for several months, but IncGamers got a chance today to speak to Dusty Monk for some new information on the now-defunct MMO. Dusty -- now the founder of Windstorm Studios -- was a staffer for Ensemble and pretty heavily focused on the Halo project. He's got some interesting things to say about what could have been: "We had all this incredible talent, we had the right people, the right passion, we had a phenomenally successful IP - the Halo IP." If you're a Halo fan thinking wistfully about what could have been, you'll definitely want to check out what else he had to say in this interview with IncGamers. [Thanks to Belinda for the tip!]

While Windstorm Studios has been very tight lipped regarding what they're currently working on, they certainly have been offering up a few glimpses into what looks to be a retro-future themed MMO they have in production. The art of the game has recently been entrusted to 226 Productions, a Russian based art company that has done work on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow, NBA '07, and TimeShift. 226 is no stranger to the IP that Windstorm has been brewing -- some of the pre-production artwork was completed by them.As to what exactly Windstorm will bring to the MMO table remains to be seen, but if these pictures are any indication, it looks to be something fresh, exciting, and filled with laser shooting scooters.

Developers are a lot like weeds apparently. Chop one down and three pop up in its place. With Ensemble Studios vets already forming two new studios, it looks like a third is ready to join the fray. IGN reports that former Ensemble developer Dusty Monk has founded Windstorm Studios. The Windstorm website proclaims the studio will not produce "post-apocalyptic games full of depressing zombies, dark caves and dire predictions of humanity's eventual destruction." Instead, it will produce "a better online game - a game with the promise of a hopeful future -- cities of glass and steel, and most importantly, flying cars!"No concrete details are given about the studio's first project, only that it will offer "an online experience that's a fresh and radical departure from the norm." We're crossing our fingers that Windstorm has successfully created the first online, xenophobic jerk filter.[Via IGN]
