Square Enix is enticing vintage RPG fans with a PSOne Classics "Winter of RPGs" promotion. It's not alone in populating the store with new old RPGs, however. MonkeyPaw Games informed us that Vanguard Bandits will be released in North America on November 15, for $9.99. That puts it right between Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy V. Vanguard Bandits is a strategy RPG developed by Human Entertainment, and published in North America by Working Designs. Players battle giant robots called ATACs (All Terrain Armored Combatants, of course) in grid-based environments.

The first Arc the Lad game was re-released on PSN this week. According to the ESRB, it won't be the only game in the series to become a PSOne Classic. Ratings have appeared for both Arc the Lad 2 and Arc Arena Monster Tournament on PSP and PS3. In their original disc-based incarnations, the two games interact: Arc Arena Monster Tournament is an arena monster fighting game that takes monster info from Arc 2. Both were originally released in North America as part of Working Designs' Arc the Lad Collection. All that's left from the collection for possible PSN release is Arc the Lad 3 -- well, that and a documentary, cardboard standees of the characters, analog stick covers and a memory card case. Maybe for PlayStation Home?

Two PlayStation action RPGs originally published by Working Designs will be released on PSN tomorrow -- though, because they're digital, there won't be any room for cloth maps, toys, or other trinkets. Sorry! The upside is that the digital releases of Alundra and Arc the Lad, published by MonkeyPaw Games, will only run you the customary $5.99 PSOne Classics price. In its press release, MonkeyPaw teased that it "[plans] to promote the titles with some of the historical swag from the titles' original releases." What could that mean? We're following up with MonkeyPaw to find out. These two games won't be in the new PSOne Imports Store, as they were both officially localized and released here. They'll be in the regular PSOne Classics area instead.%Gallery-104801%%Gallery-104806%

  • The Digital Continuum: Dealing with delay

Back in 1999 when I was just a 14 teenager with way too much free time on his hands, I had finally got Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete for my PlayStation. Saying the game saw delays would be quite an understatement and up until that time I had been pretty frustrated with the whole ordeal. Nobody likes it when games are delayed and back then I was no exception. But thinking back to how wonderfully translated (and semi-ported from the Sega Saturn) the game was, it was quite worth the wait. Although I may not have realized it at the time, the delays were entirely the right choice. And as it turns out, they usually are, not that everyone can make that observation.

When Hudson unveiled Miami Law, we desperately started scrolling through old posts and the websites of likely Japanese developers, because we couldn't identify the Japanese game upon which it was based. It turns out there's a good reason for that -- the American press release is actually the first information released about the game at all. It is being developed in Japan, but released in North America first. This information came to us from Victor Ireland, former president of the publisher Working Designs, who started a new company back in 2006 called Gaijinworks. Miami Law's localization is actually the "first project out of the gate for Gaijinworks," as Ireland told us! Back in January, Ireland told 1UP that something related to the company would be "publically announced in a month or two" for summer release, and that it wouldn't be "one of the MAIN things." We can guess that Miami Law is that first item, then, and we can look forward to more from Gaijinworks in the near future.%Gallery-45960%
