You ask the impossible: Finding classic world-drop recipes
I've been running a Challenge Modes 101 series recently to help players who are scrambling to get their transmog sets, mounts, and titles before the axe falls, and our commenter Drewbob pointed something out that I hadn't considered. The use of Invisibility Potions is a key part of the strategy for gold timers, but the recipe is a world drop in classic Azeroth. If you weren't lucky enough to get a drop while leveling, or buy it when it was more commonly available on the auction house, you may find it very difficult to get these days. You can't really farm for it, and on smaller servers, you've got to wonder if it's ever available at all. I bought my Invisibility Potion recipe back during Burning Crusade, and now that Drewbob's mentioned the sheer difficulty of finding it these days, I'm so grateful that I was always too lazy to switch professions.
Wowhead releases BoE set armor guide
If you're a fan of transmogrification, you're no doubt familiar with the difficulties of trying to keep track of all those green BoE sets out there in Azeroth. Over at Wowhead, that process has just been made a lot easier with a transmogrification guide put together by Perculia, detailing BoE sets in cloth, leather, mail and plate. Specifically covering those pesky world-drop greens, the guide has model views of each set that you can see with a simple mouseover. BoE green drops have long been a hit-or-miss for transmog fanatics, but Wowhead's guide is an easy, quick reference to help not only with tracking down obscure sets, but offering alternate pieces of gear with the same models as well. The mouseover visuals are incredibly handy for anyone looking for color-matching items, and of course Wowhead is its usual helpful self when it comes to finding out the best place to find all the gear your transmog-addicted heart desires. While you're checking out the BoE guide, you may want to take a look at Wowhead's other guides as well, covering everything from your typical tier armor sets to lookalikes, quest rewards, dungeon sets and more. If you've been looking for a new look for your character, going back to the sets of old for inspiration isn't a bad idea at all.
Phat Loot Phriday: Avool's Sword of Jin
That doesn't look like a sword. It just looks like a terrifying swath of death! We love it.Name: Avool's Sword of Jin (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoW-Arsenal)Type: Epic One-hand SwordDamage/Speed: 150-280 / 1.50 (143.3 DPS)Abilities: +38 Agility, +36 Stamina Improves hit rating by 31 and attack power by 62 Great sword for Rogues or Hunters, though the method of obtaining it (see below) probably outweighs the actual stats of it, unless you really, really want one. The hit is great, the fact that it can be dual wielded is nice, and the attack power is just icing on the cake. Plus, just look at it. If someone is running at you and holding that thing, it's pretty clear they don't want to give you a hug and take you out to dinner. It reminds me of the Kill-O-Zap guns from the Hitchhiker's Guide: "the designers of which decided to make it totally clear that it had a right end, and a wrong end, and if that meant sticking blacked and evil-looking devices and prongs all over the wrong end, so be it." %Gallery-33600%
Insider Trader: Highlights of Wrath crafting, Tailoring edition
Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.Wrath of the Lich King has changed many things about the professions we all know and sometimes love. Last week, Insider Trader looked at the highlights of the Leatherworking and Blacksmithing professions, showing you what's new, how to plan out your leveling, and what you can look forward to at what points. This week, Tailoring is up for discussion. There are faction recipes and dropped recipes, as well as highlights from your trainer that you won't want to miss. Here is a quick summary: New and improved exclusive spellthreads for enchanting your pants. A 20-slot bag and a 22-slot bag. A slow flying carpet mount as well as an epic one. Specialty cloth for epic gear. Frost resistance gear. An 8-piece PvP pseudo-set. Exclusive cloak enchants. Special threads that you can sell for a profit. Soul shard and enchanting bags with 32 slots.
Phat Loot Phriday: Orb of Deception
I find it hard to believe that we've never done this, but a search through the archives leads me to conclude that we haven't, so here you go.Name: Orb of DeceptionType: Rare TrinketDamage/Speed: N/AAbilities: On use, transforms you into a character of the opposing faction. That means you suddenly change your look, from Alliance to Horde or vice versa. Humans to Orcs, Undead to Night Elf, Troll to Dwarf, Tauren to Gnome, and Blood Elf to Draenei (or vice versa). Lasts for five minutes, and has unlimited charges on a 30 minutes cooldown. It's mostly just a joke, as NPCs will see right through your disguise, and players will still see red text above your head. But it is fun to cause a little commotion when a newbie spots you walking around a big city as the other faction. Finally, gender gets a little weird with this, too. Night Elves and undead will change sexes when transformed, and using other shapeshifting buffs, we're told, will make genders change as well. Why is that? Who knows. Probably a bit of coding weirdness that Blizzard isn't interested in fixing. How to Get It: If "the Orb" (sly Brisco County, Jr. reference there-- anyone with me on that?) was easy to get, everyone would have one, right? Well, it's only kind of easy to get-- it's a world drop, which means that it can drop from almost anywhere in the world. I'm pretty sure it tends to drop in instances, but even that isn't for sure-- lots of people say they've seen it drop out of instances, too.At any rate, you probably have a better chance just buying it than actually getting it in a drop. Could cost you up to 500 or even 1000g, but given how quickly gold shows up these days, you'll get it faster by just farming gold for it rather than trying to get it to drop for you. Check the AH every day, grab it when you see it pop up, and you're ready for a little bit of deception fun.Getting rid of it: Sells for 46s 18c to vendors, and disenchants into a Large Brilliant Shard.
Epic gear coming to Scarlet Monastery (and elsewhere)
Here's a little change I missed in the midlevel updates notes: Epic gear will now drop for lowbies. Example number one is the Deadman's Hand, which will drop from Arcanist Doan in SM, and has a proc that "freezes" attackers for a full three seconds. Hawt! Eyonix, who's poking around the forums today after a long absence, confirms that the proc will scale with level, which means it'll be basically useless by 70.But still-- Epic gear for lowbies! What is the world coming to? A quick search on Wowhead doesn't bring anything else new yet that I can see (lots of Epic turn-ins and the old World Drops that we already know about), but this can't be the only Epic they're adding to the lowbie dungeons-- I'm sure we'll see lots more pop up as more people test the PTR and the patch eventually goes live.Yes, giving Epics to folks who haven't hit even 50 yet might seem a little strange-- just how epic can a piece of equipment be if a knockover like Arcanist Doan can hang on to it? But it's more than worth it, as even lowbies running instances should have a chance to know what it feels like to loot a boss-- and find some of those tasty Professor Plums.
