Last week's talkcast was a valedictory to our trans-Atlantic comrade, Nik Fletcher, who has ended his tenure with TUAW but remains active over at Download Squad. Download the show from Talkshoe, play it from the Flash player in the continuation of this post, if you like, or pick it up on iTunes. Join us again later tonight, Sunday June 1 at 10 pm ET for our WWDC preview show. We'll be talking to developers (hint -- developers, if you want to talk about your products to Mac users, c'mon down!) and giving away the trivia prizes we neglected to hand out last week.

  • Rumor: iPhone 3G Launch on June 9th

Gizmodo is reporting that "sources close to the 3G launch" have provided confirmation that the iPhone 3G will be announced at the WWDC 2008 Keynote on June 9th. While this does sound a lot like a rumor, other factors such as nonexistent stocks of first-generation iPhones, the flurry of non-US iPhone launch announcements last week, and the all-but-confirmed Steve Jobs keynote all point to something big.Gizmodo also speculates that European launch dates are scheduled to follow close on the heels of the US announcement, with iPhone 3G availability in Spain at the grand opening of the Telefonica megastore in Madrid on June 18th.June 9th sounds good to me, since I can buy my wife an iPhone 3G for our 29th anniversary on that day! What's your take on the iPhone 3G rumor du jour? Give it a reality check by taking our poll:%Poll-14469%Tip 'o the TUAW Stetson to Sharvil for pointing this out!

Okay I promise this is that last time I'm talking about the WWDC schedule (I can't speak for my confreres). Earlier today Brett posted on a nice Ruby script to convert the data to a readable PDF. Yesterday when we first noted that the WWDC schedule was available I complained about the lack of iCal compatible files and apparently Adrian Kosmaczewski agreed. He proceeded to cook up a little script to make the necessary conversions. You can download iCal format ics files for the iPhone, Mac, and IT tracks at his website.

Apple has posted the complete conference schedule for the upcoming 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference. With a very slick web-based interface all the sessions and labs are broken down by topic (iPhone, Mac, iPhone and Mac, and IT) for each morning and afternoon of the conference (though, Apple, where are the iCal calendars?). By the looks of it, Apple seems pretty serious about this whole two bridges thing. In any case, if you're lucky enough to be headed to San Francisco you can fine tune your plan of attack and agonize over your choices at the schedule website. Thanks Chris!

With the iPhone SDK announcement last week, some of us here at TUAW were expecting a Worldwide Developer Conference date to be announced. Thankfully, the world has been put to rights, as Apple has now announced that WWDC will run from 9th - 13th June at San Francisco's Moscone Centre (West Hall). With three tracks (iPhone, Mac and IT) if you're a developer or IT Pro this is probably a conference you'll want to be at -- and students are encouraged too, with Student Scholarships usually available.Whilst the ticket prices are forthcoming, it'll Tickets get you 5 days of sessions, Apple engineers, (likely) a Steve Jobs keynote and plenty you can't talk about. With the arrival of the iPhone SDK, we'd wager this years conference is frankly going to be a little popular (what with the full public release likely to arrive around the same time) so it might be prudent to book at your earliest convenience.Pricing for this year's WWDC is US$1295 for a single ticket, US$5180 for 5 tickets (saving you $1295). Apple are also offering combined packages of ADC membership and a WWDC membership.
