Ubisoft won't attempt an unlimited gaming service until EA proves it can work
It turns out Electronic Arts' Access program has at least one high-profile spectator: Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. The Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs company's head says that Ubisoft is keeping a keen eye on what that type of service can offer players, telling Game Informer that he's open to "any way" of giving fans access to Ubisoft's games. However, "it has to work well and be a smooth experience," he says. An Access-like system seems like the natural progression that the French company's been building toward for awhile, albeit slowly, putting various pieces in place and testing them out over time. Given Ubisoft's checkered history with DRM issues and that Uplay Passport system, though, it's probably better if Guillemot lets someone else deal with the growing pains with this time 'round.
EA, Ubisoft execs applaud PS3 price cut, also like things that are good
Well, this one doesn't exactly come out of left field, but it looks like gaming industry execs are starting to sing a decidedly different tune now that Sony has finally cut the price of the PS3. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft bigwig Yves Guillemot said that "it's exceptional news, actually," adding that "I think the machine is a great machine, with the Blu-ray." EA Games president Frank Gibeau was also apparently more than happy to back up that praise, saying that, "I think it's awesome," and that "it's an old line, but it still rings true for us: 'We make the ammunition for the hardware wars.' So the lowest priced hardware possible is a good thing for us." Still noticeably mum on the matter, however, is Activision's CEO, who once threatened to pick up his ball and go home if Sony didn't drop its prices. [Via Joystiq]
Ubisoft CEO says the PS3 launch price was "right"
CEO's can sometimes say the darndest things. The always outspoken CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, spoke with Gamesindustry.biz about the cost of the PS3, which clearly differed from his earlier views. Speaking about Sony directly, he says, " [they] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers. It's just that if we want more consumers, we'll have to have a price that will make more people come in." Well Sony has at least one CEO in their corner in mild agreement about the launch price of the PS3, except it just further exemplifies a growing demand for a price cut now. The interviewer inquired about the possibility of a price cut before the all-important holiday season, to which Guillemot of course, agreed would be nice. "For publishers, we want as many machines sold as possible, so for us the lower the price the better," he says. Previously, analysts have estimated a PS3 price cut could already be on the way. Time will tell.[Via Joystiq]
