XBLA is up for another threefer this week, with Zombie Wranglers (no, really), Arkanoid Live and Space Invaders Extreme all hitting the service. Arkanoid Live and Space Invaders Extreme are both remakes of arcade classics, while Zombie Wranglers is a co-op game that tasks players with -- you guessed it -- wrangling zombies. All three games will be available this Wednesday for 800 ($10) each.If you'd rather nab Zombie Wranglers for free, developer Frozen Codebase is giving away five download codes on the official Zombie Wranglers Facebook page. • Frozen Codebase: Zombie Wranglers on XBLA May 6

The long-shambling release story of Zombie Wranglers may finally conclude if it releases on May 6, as is currently planned. Zombie Wranglers' original intention of releasing last year was kept at bay with shotguns, due to some behind-the-scenes drama following Sierra's "integration" into Activision Blizzard. We spoke with Ben Geisler at developer Frozen Codebase, who told us he believes the current release date should stick this time. As always, we'll have to see if Microsoft makes the release "official" during the game's alleged release week. For now, the only thing we're sure about is the developer believes its game will release on the scheduled date -- and Samoas are delicious, we're sure about that too. Check out some new screenshots of the title below.%Gallery-50897%[Via GamerBytes]

  • Zombie Wranglers listed early on the XBLA [Update]

Looks like someone jumped the gun at XBLA HQ. One of our tipsters just discovered that the recently revealed Zombie Wranglers, yet to be released, Xbox Live Arcade title is available on the service now through the promotional Shocktober pages on the Marketplace. Clicking through the Arcade recommendations for the Halloween themed promotional page reveals Zombie Wranglers is intended to be released in October but clicking on the title actually reveals it is already available for purchase on the service for 800MS points. Unfortunately no demo is available, which is why we assume the title was accidentally placed on the service. Looking forward to Zombie action? Get it while it's hot ... because as soon as Microsoft discovers it, it will most likely be pulled for the actual planned release date. More images of the menu after the jump.Ed. Note: When searching through the Xbox Live Arcade titles normally, Zombie Wranglers is not listed and can only be found if you come across a promotional banner for Shocktober - which pops up randomly among other ads. We've only had the ad appear on accounts in the USA. [Update: The content is listed but not available for download at this time.] [Thanks, FR3SH JIV3]

  • Rumor: Zombie Wranglers shambles to XBLA soon

click to embiggen Tipster VIP0R informs us that someone at Microsoft may have made a little boo-boo this morning. While browsing Inside Xbox, VIP0R came across the page pictured above. According to the page, the Sierra Online's Zombie Wranglers is already available on Xbox Live Arcade. Unfortunately, this contradicts the fact that the game is not, in fact, available on Xbox Live Arcade. VIP0R informs us that the link in the page led to a blank page. Furthermore, it seems the Inside Xbox page has now been replaced with a more appropriate page regarding Feeding Frenzy 2.Does this mean we'll be seeing Zombie Wranglers next week? It's possible, though certainly not assured. Heck, it's possible the image above is no more than Photoshop trickery, though it looks legit to us. We'd be happy to see Zombie Wranglers release next week, so long as it doesn't interfere with the launch of Duke Nukem 3D, of course.

[Update: Ya'll got lucky and scored an extra hour of survival time, but the contest is now over. Watch your email folks, as we'll be contacting the two winners soon.] You're lucky this week readers! Not only will there be the standard Fanswag later on, but you've also got the chance to become a walking Sierra Online advertisement! We've got some swag from a Sierra press event, inspired by their upcoming XBLA games, Assault Heroes 2 and Zombie Wranglers. The take is a bit straightforward, given that it's clothes, but there is one small, cool detail about the shirts. The white lettering and graphics are actually glow in the dark, which makes them extra awesome. Also, this edition of Fanswag expires quicker than usual. Just like in a zombie invasion, time is of the essence. Instead of days, this time you only get hours (five of 'em). Since humor is the theme of Zombie Wranglers, post the sort of zombie you would be if the world was taken over by the undead (pirate zombie, ninja zombie, etc). Be sure you only leave one comment. Posters of multiple comments will be disqualified. We'll accept entries until 5:00pm today, Eastern Time. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. This giveaway is open only to residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec). At 5:00pm, we'll pick two winners via a random drawing. Two winners will each receive an Assault Heroes 2, one-size-fits-all hat, and a Zombie Wranglers XL t-shirt. Each prize pack is worth about $20. The complete rules can be found here. If you'd like to see the back of the shirt and hat, a picture of them has been posted after the break.

At the Sierra event we attended XBLA games weren't exactly the main attraction. Despite the fact that four games were there, the area was rather empty in comparison to the rest of the games' booths. True, it was a bit hidden toward the back, but there were never more than a dozen people there at a time (including the devs!) On first glimpse of the XBLA titles listed on the cardboard display, it appeared as though the place was being avoided for good reason, but upon further inspection there was indeed some potential in the available games. Plus, Sierra had a few small pieces of XBLA swag that we'll give you guys the opportunity to get your mitts on in a short fanswag giveaway tomorrow. The four games on display were Assault Heroes 2, which is something of a known quantity, Zombie Wranglers, which was (and is) largely unknown, Sea Life Safari, which has the appearance of Finding Nemo, and Gin Rummy, which is ... well, y'know, just Gin Rummy. So we couldn't exactly blame our fellow attendees for wanting to see Ghostbusters and Prototype instead. Still, that doesn't make the XBLA titles bad, and what we saw look quite good for what it was. Hit the break for the individual game impressions.

Sierra recently showed off its upcoming crop of XBLA games at a media event. While a couple have promise, most could be buried by the quantity or quality of competitors. All are confirmed only for XBLA, but Sierra is considering PSN versions of most. All will be out this Summer.
