The MTV Player

MTV Player

Not sure if the good people at MTV know about this, but Zhejiang Huahong Optronics Group, a small manufacturer in China, has decided to branch out a bit from optronics with the MTV Player, a new portable video player with 2GB of flash memory and a 2-inch LCD screen. (Though if Viacom has anything at all to do with this, we're going to have to insist that Zhejiang Huahong Optronics Group do it up right and bust out a VH1 Classic Player). Anyway, except for the part about possibly violating some trademarks and getting into some legal hot water (an issue Chinese manufacturers only occasionally concern themselves with), hitching a ride on someone's brand probably wasn't such a bad idea. Apart from having the word "MTV" in its name, we can't think of any other reason why the AP reporter who saw this at this week's Midem music conference would decided to focus on this one particular device given the dozens of other obscure, no-name personal video players that are around these days.
