Texxi: SMS-based taxi carpooling
Unlike New York gypsy cabs, which are usually considered if nothing else more reliable than Yellow Cabs (since they're usually local and know the area), London gypsy cabs have a very bad reputation and are usually to be avoided in favor of their Black Cab counterparts. Enter Texxi: SMS in your podcode (NW5 reprazent!), and the nearest Texxi-enabled Black Cab with a verified driver name and badge number en route past your pickup point (and headed past your dropoff point) will let you hop in for a flat fee. Think of it as cab carpooling—which makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Unfortunately there's no way this system could ever going to work unless it's rolled out on a huge scale, something Texxi creator Crane Dragon would love nothing more to see.
