Gmail Notifier for OS X

Gmail Notifier

It looks like Google is showing us Mac users some love after the whole GTalk client thing. Gmail Notifier, which was Windows only, is now available for Mac OS 10.3.8 and later (including Tiger).

Gmail

What is Gmail Notifier? Much like Gcount, GmailStatus, and Gpeek, it is a simple program that lets you know when you have email in your Gmail account by displaying the icon on the left in your menu bar.

Thanks for the tip, Ferjan.
More exciting pictures from the install after the jump.

Gmail disk image

When you download Gmail Notifier you will find a little Google disk image on your desktop (or wherever you happen to download things to). The custom icon for the disk image is a nice touch, and perhaps it is why it took Google so long to port this to the Mac.

That's a joke, folks, just in case someone thought I was serious.

You double click the icon, get the normal "Drag me to your applications folder to install," and then double click the application icon to start. You are greeted with this dialogue box:

Gmail password box

Enter your Gmail address, your password and then click OK. That's it, it is now running in your menu bar. If you click on the menubar item you get this drop down:

Gmail Menu

The preferences:

Gmail Preferences

And that's about it.
