Blu-ray and HD-DVD camps trying to get it together
Ok, maybe we spoke too soon about it being too late for the HD-DVD and Blu-ray camps to set aside their differences and work together on a single next-generation DVD standard. Everyone's keeping it on the downlow, but EE Times reports that both camps are considering two different proposals to create a new hybrid standard that would borrow elements from both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Everybody knows that two competing standards would be bad news for the entire industry, but so far no one has been willing to budge, with each side talking big about how they expect their standard to
prevail about how the other side should just give up and adopt their format. Translation: Even though they're chatting, don't get your hopes up.
