The GigaPxl project: images of up to four billion pixels

And here we were gettin' all titillated by 16 megapixel digital cameras when along comes the GigaPxl Project making us feel like right fools — yeah that's not a typo, four billion mofo'in pixels! While those numbers are common for astro-cameras they are (or rather were) entirely unheard of for landscape photography. Check it out yourselves at the project's image gallery to sample 4 gigapixel snaps measuring 88,000 x 44,000 pixels. Incidentally, images of that quality would be 24GB files if left uncompresssed. But don't sweat it, there's no downloading required.
