Hitchers guide to locative cellphone gaming

Hitchers

Hitchers is a proposal for a location-based interactive cellphone game in which it sounds like you're basically toying with hitchhikers. As a player you can "summon" nearby hitchers and give them tasks or missions (e.g. "fetch my Groove Armada CD from the trunk, fool!"). Pick up a hitcher as you pass by and interact with them by trading photos via MMS, exchanging questions or passing on messages for them to give to other players. A central computer tracks the progress of all the hitchers, and players can check up on their backgrounds and "memories" of stores photos and videos of their travels. Sounds like the perfect vehicle for avoiding any of the actual adventure of picking up real live hitchhikers.
