Oct 2: What's on HDTV today

Fender Stratocaster

What we're watching: Can you believe that the Fender Stratocaster guitar is 50 years old this year? HDNet is running a two-and-a-half-hour special tonight at 8:30 p.m. that reviews the history of this world famous electric guitar. Special guests on the show include Ron Wood, Joe Walsh, Mike Rutherford and more. Musical shows and documentaries just rock in HD, so take a break from football and tune in.

If you must have more football, you can catch the 49ers and the Cardinals on ESPN-HD at 8:30 instead. I may have to tune in as I'm one of only five known Cardinals fans. Yup, I've been disappointed every year since a 'mate from high-school got drafted by the Cards in 1990. Oh, the pain and misery... While we're playing "This Is Your Life" you may recognize another TV individual I went to high school with.

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.
