Appeals court refuses to stay injunction barring BlackBerry sales

BlackBerry 7290

NTP just put another smackdown on RIM in the latest chapter of their ongoing legal battle over patent infringment. A couple of weeks ago they failed in their bid for an appeals court to rehear the case, today the court denied RIM's request to stay an earlier ruling ordering them to stop selling BlackBerry handhelds and cellphones in the US while they appeal the case to the Supreme Court. Doesn't automatically mean that they have to stop all BlackBerry sales right this second, since NTP still has to get a lower court to actually enforce the injunction, but this definitely isn't positive news for RIM (this despite having the USPTO invalidate several of the patents in question).
