Dec. 31: What's on HDTV today

Dick Clark

What we're watching
:

Hats off to ABC for ending 2005 the right way: in high def. ABC is the only network with any semblance of New Year's Eve programming in HD, so we'll be tuning in as we flip between beer, mixed drinks and champagne. Of course, after a few hours of that, even SDTV will start looking good, so pace yourselves!

The festivities start at 10 p.m. on ABC with "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" in 720p. The ageless Clark takes a break at 11 p.m. for your local news, but the party picks up again at 11:35 p.m. ABC wisely put a family movie on before the party starts, so tell the babysitter to have the kids catch "Snow Dogs" at 8 p.m. on ABC.

If you're out on the town, remember two important maxims. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here is the first. Don't drink and drive is the second, but most important. Be safe tonight and we wish you the best in 2006 here at HD Beat!

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.
