iTunes: Free Wednesday
Welcome to this week's edition of iTunes: Free Tuesday Wednesday. Each week TUAW searches the iTunes Stores throughout the world and brings you the latest free items for you to download and enjoy. This week got off to a very late start. It seems that Apple is sleeping in later and later each week, delaying the posting of the newest iTunes freebies, and with all the excitement about iTunes Plus it took an extra day for the Singles of the Week to go live. But all is well and we're happy to (finally) bring you this week's goodies. US and UK Readers can even download a free! iTunes Plus-grade track this week with the Single of the Week. Internationally, it's a very Jarhand week: it's the SOTW for Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

The Kooks hail from Brighton and were nominated Best New Act at the 2006 Q Awards and won Best UK and Ireland Act of 2006 at the MTV Europe Music Awards. This group has been diligently performing at home since it formed about five years ago. Opening for bands such as the Arcade Fire and the Constantines gave Immaculate Machine more exposure, increasing their fan base and giving them the confidence that shows on "Jarhand". This is an effervescent track with a Motown rhythm that draws a little on the harmonies of roots-punk heroes X and fellow countrymen the New Pornographers (with whom they share a member). "Jarhand" also features some backing vocal assistance from Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and English trio the Cribs.

Le groupe de hip-hop philippin Native Guns sait comment pondre une ligne de basse solide et accrocheuse pour y jouer sur les mots et y apposer un hook qui enrichit le mélange d'une dose de funk. L'autre intérêt du morceau, plus inattendu, c'est le texte des Native Guns, qui sur un groove relaxant décrit les affres des esclaves de sweatshops et des enfants exploités.
