PSN down for unscheduled maintainance; All countries affected [UPDATE]

It's true, try it for yourself. When trying to log into the PlayStation Network we are met with a wee bubble stating that its use has been suspended. We've had our *ahem* European and Japanese friends try logging in too and they have the same message. Clearly Sony is wheeling out an update of some kind, though we wouldn't dare to speculate what it could be.

Ha, as if. Things we would like to see include:

  • PSN Store redesign

  • Home beta

  • LittleBigPlanet beta

  • mass roll-out of trailers, demos and other videos

  • a sign up form for a lifetime supply of cheese and biscuits

We're not holding our breath for any of that. It could just be backend maintainance that we won't even notice once the network comes back up. Interesting that it affects all countries though, don't you think?

[UPDATE] The network itself is now back up. The store, however, is still down. Instead we see a very interesting screen stating that it's undergoing maintainance. Interestingly, the style is very different to any part of the PSN we've seen before. Could this be the PSN Store redesign we were after? We'll keep you informed.

[UPDATE] Image replaced to show new screen.

[UPDATE] Store is back up and looking ... the same. For all territories. Still, we don't think this was a coincidence. We suppose Sony are doing some backend updates in preparation for whatever they have planned for this week. We'll see what happens.
