VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 8/13/07

This is an epic week on the Virtual Console for us gamers in the states. We finally receive one of Nintendo's biggest franchises: Metroid. As the first title was released to us all earlier today, we have no doubt some of you might already have managed to get some good time in. And, yes, we're jealous.

Cratermaze (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!

Cratermaze is one fun time. Not only is the playful nature of burying your enemies alive something to love in this title, but also that of ... well, uh ... burying your enemies alive. Seriously, it's devilishly fun. The rest of the game is pretty good, too!

Metroid (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!

Oh, Metroid. How we spent much of our adolescence fighting for control of the TV with other siblings so that we may play you. Now, we don't have to do that anymore (we have our own TV now!). Sadly, as we grow older, we find our time for games slipping away, so the large amount needed here could possibly be a roadblock too large to navigate around. You've been warned.

Shining in the Darkness (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: RPG junkies need apply

First-person isn't necessarily a bad control option, but in this game it isn't executed all that well. We have a feeling that this game could be quite the timesink for fans of the genre, but overall we couldn't get past how badly it controlled. So, if that's something you don't mind, then, by all means, dive in. Otherwise, sink all of your time into Metroid.

That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii.
