PS3 Fanboy interview: Creat Studios

The PSN just added a new publisher and developer of original content a few weeks ago. Creat Studios joins Sony's ever-expanding team of PSN content providers. We chatted with Matt Sughre about downloadable games and what they plan to offer PS3 owners.

Creat recently signed an agreement with Sony to publish games on the PSN. Why choose PSN over XBLA and WiiWare?
We have a lot of experience with Sony platforms, and a great working relationship with both SCEA and SCEE. Our long-range plans do include both XBLA and Wiiware.

What's so appealing about creating downloadable games?
I think for us it's the challenge of making and selling games directly to consumers that makes it interesting. We've got some talented designers on staff who have been cooking downloadable concepts for quite a while, and we're finally ready to move forward with them. It's a very exciting time for Creat Studios.

Are there any noteworthy PSN titles that you look at as prime examples of what a downloadable title should be?
We're all playing PAIN here at Creat these days. It's a great game to play with a few friends, and the production values are excellent.

Are downloadable games the future of Creat? Or, will we see more traditionally published games from the studio?
We'll be doing both downloadable and 3rd party development for the foreseeable future. We've got deep roots in 3rd party development and good relationships with leading publishers.

The press release mentions plans for Creat to become a publisher of other developer's PSN games. Are any partnerships already in the works? What services will Creat offer fledgling developers?
We're currently working with several partners on downloadable content for PSN. We'll announce the details of these partnerships early next year. We're also talking with a number of development teams across Eastern Europe about bringing their finished or almost finished games to PSN.

Finally, any details on your first PSN game?
We'll be announcing our first round of PSN titles early next year. Stay tuned ...
