PS Fanboy Best of 2007: Best Role-Playing Game

Stay tuned all this week as we reveal the our nominees for the very best games of 2007. Winners will be declared on December 27th.

If you haven't guessed from our posts or podcasts, a lot of the PS3 Fanboy staff are huge fans of the role-playing genre. While 2007 didn't see any "traditional" releases as far as JRPG's go, there are still a couple of games we'd be foolish not to mention.

The nominees for PS3 Fanboy - Best Role-Playing Game are:

Folklore
(Game Republic | Sony Computer Entertainment)

While it's connection to the RPG genre isn't all that strong, it's still an action-RPG in its own right. It's a darn good one, too. There are plenty of quests to complete and items/power-ups to collect outside of the main storyline and the dual characters with multiple costumes keeps the game fresh. We'd definitely recommend this game to RPG aficionados and casual RPG gamers alike.

Oblivion

Bethesda | 2K Games

Hailed by many as the best of Western RPG's, Oblivion released last year for the most part, but the PS3 saw it's version come alive in 2007, thus, we count it as one of our best releases this year. The interactivity, the vastness of the world, the frenzy of the battles, the choices you can make ... it's all very epic, really. The Shivering Isles expansion just helps the game's cause.
