For the last time -- FFVII is NOT being remade (right now)

According to IGN Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura has issued the strongest denial of a Final Fantasy VII remake yet. In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Dorimaga, he said, "It appears that there are often overseas rumors like 'Are you currently developing a VII remake?' My apologies, but we're absolutely not making [such a game]."

Okay? It's not being worked on. Nomura did give the fanboys some good news though, as he went on to say that it will almost definitely be remade at some point, since it's something that even a lot of his coworkers want and Square Enix isn't ignorant of what the fans want. As he said, "As long as there are people who want to make it and people who are waiting for it, we don't want to proclaim 'the end.'"

While the denial may disappoint some fans, it was always a pretty nebulous rumor in the first place. Square Enix is kind of busy right now working on their epic 10-year-arc of Final Fantasy XIII, and it seems unlikely that they'd have the time or resources to remake of their most famous and loved RPG of all time. They knows that it's not going to be able to pass the muster of the critics and fans unless they really give it the royal treatment, and it seems likely they'll wait until they're able to give FFVII the attention it deserves. So for those jonesing for a Final Fantasy fix, you'll be waiting until next -unless you have a PSP. There's damn blizzard of Final Fantasy games coming out for the PS3's little brother this fall!
