Rumor: Splinter Cell: Conviction escapes original gameplay, visual design

Just as we were starting to hate him just a little less, there's a chance "emo" Sam Fisher, star of the coming-someday Splinter Cell: Conviction, could be on his way out. A report by Videogaming247 indicates that the game, previously pushed into 2009, is undergoing some cosmetic changes. As in losing the man-mascara?

The site quotes an Ubisoft community development manager as saying that the game is "certainly not canned," but that "the gameplay has evolved a lot" and "the visual direction is simply much better." Given the game's absence from this year's E3, we figured a considerable amount of re-tooling was in progress. The source says that when we see Conviction again, "it'll be worth the wait." It'd better be – our beards and hair are starting to look scragglier than Sam's up there.
