Ask Joystiq Nintendo: Downloadable edition

This week in Ask Joystiq Nintendo, we have a variety of reader questions, most of which related to downloadin' in some way, from predicting new downloadable content, to setting up a DSi for use online (presumably for getting DSiWare games), to saving the stuff that's already been downloaded. Also there's a Street Fighter question, which doesn't really fit the theme, but yay Street Fighter.

If you'd like us to address any Nintendo-related questions you have, or post a picture of the blue DSi again (which we really like doing), send us an e-mail at asknintendo at joystiq dot com!

Eddie asks:

Hello my name is Eddie and my question is, will Nintendo ever get a Street Fighter game even if it's not Street Fighter 4 on Wii? All I see are a few classics on the Virtual Console -- don't get me wrong, I think it's great, but I've been waiting for something new for a while it's one of those titles that has been making Wii owners feel a little in the dark so to speak.

There will be a Street Fighter game on Wii, because there is! It's called Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and it's been out in Japan since December. If you don't mind installing the Homebrew Channel on your Wii, you can run import games -- and TvC certainly seems worth the effort. It may come out outside Japan, but we're not holding our breath.

Roberto asks:

I´ve noticed a strange sound coming from apparently the fan or the reader of the Wii and it can be easily noticed when I turn it on or when it loads a game. Can it be fixed?
Also the console has failed twice to read a game, I had to take it out and insert it again.

If this means the life of my Wii is about to end, then:
Is there a way to pass the WiiWare games (Mega Man 9!), Virtual Console games or copy-unfriendly saves like Brawl and Pokemon Battle Revolution from my Wii to another? Is there a way to download them but without paying for them again? I already purchased them, there is no need to pay for them again. What about DLC (GH songs)?
Is there a way to copy the DLC data into an SD and download them again in the other console?

Please, If my Wii dies ... I want to save the most I can.

Okay, this is going to sound like a copout, because it's not specific advice about how to fix your own Wii or transfer data, but call Nintendo. Call Nintendo right now! You can't transfer data, and you shouldn't service your own system. Tell the company you have stuff on there that you want, and customer service will make sure it gets transferred.

Jason Crockett asks:

Will the DSi be compatible with the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector?

If there were an incompatibility, there would be a note on the DS accessories page in Japan (where the DSi has already been released). There isn't! Besides, the DSi supports the same protocols as the original DS, just ... more.

Jose Solórzano asks:

I have the same question most Wii plastic-rockers have: Has Harmonix given any word on when RB2 users will get synced with the online store? People got hyped when SRV's Texas Flood got released but now we are damned again. An option could always be two updates per week to cut synch time and give new material for everyone.

Since you sent this question, we have had another week of simultaneous cross-platform DLC. So it was one week on, one week off, one week on ... which is really confusing! We've asked Harmonix about this multiple times, and they haven't commented. All we can say right now is that it's awesome that the first week of sync wasn't an accident!

Brian Richards asks:

Have any other DSi colors been confirmed except for black and blue?

Here's the worldwide rundown of known DSi colors as of right now. No additional colors have been announced.

Every week, we'll answer reader questions about the Wii, the DS, or any other Nintendo-related topic in Ask Joystiq Nintendo. If you have a question, e-mail it to asknintendo AT joystiq DOT com! You need your questions answered, and we need content for this column. It's a symbiotic relationship!
