Hisense selects AMIMON for its wireless HDTV, WHDI makes friends with HDCP

We've got three important tidbits to share this morning from the labs of AMIMON, so we can't afford to waste any time bantering about how far the wireless HD industry as a whole has to go before it becomes even marginally important to the average consumer. First off, LG Electronics has decided to tag along in the WHDI SIG, joining the likes of Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony. Obviously, LG's hoping to push the wireless standard as a protocol that'll be accepted industry wide, and given the amount of splintering that exists currently, we can't say we're too against the collaboration. Moving on, we're told that the aforesaid WHDI standard will enable HDCP revision 2.0 as its content protection technology, and leading Chinese TV manufacturer Hisense has announced its intentions to integrate AMIMON's solution into its sets. LG Electronics joins WHDI SIG; Leslie Chard Named President of WHDI LLC.

Las Vegas, CES – January 6, 2009 – WHDI™ LLC is pleased to announce that LG Electronics, Ltd. will be joining the WHDI SIG. Current members of the WHDI SIG are AMIMON Inc., Hitachi, Ltd., LG Electronics, Motorola Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Sharp Corporation and Sony Corporation.

The addition of LG Electronics to the special interest group builds on the momentum of the WHDI standard as the leader in multi-room wireless high-definition video, audio and device control connectivity.

As a promoter, LG will help shape and drive the WHDI standard, which will enable wireless streaming of HD video and audio between CE devices such as LCD and plasma HDTVs, multimedia projectors, A/V receivers, DVD and BD players, set-top boxes, game consoles, and PCs.

WHDI LLC is also pleased to announce that industry veteran Leslie Chard will serve as its President. Mr. Chard has lead similar initiatives, including HDMI and DVI. Mr. Chard previously served as president of HDMI Licensing, LLC where he was a key force in spearheading HDMI's industry acceptance and mass adoption. Mr. Chard is a prominent technology industry figure who brings 20 years of experience to the development and promotion of the WHDI standard.

New specification of HDCP approved by major Content Providers with WHDI standard as a supported interface

Las Vegas, CES – January 06, 2009 – WHDI LLC today announced that the new Wireless Home Digital Interface™ (WHDI™) standard for multi-room wireless HDTV connectivity will enable High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) revision 2.0 as its content protection technology.
