WRUP: Incoming GEE-DEE-SEE 2009

Next week we're sending a small strike force to cover the Game Developers Conference 2009 in San Francisco, a magical city where cougars, bears, cubs, wolves and otters are found just roaming the streets -- fun fact is that Twinkies are actually a great repellent to the wildlife. Although GDC '09 is certainly scaled back this year from a marketing standpoint -- there's a real E3 again, you know -- we should have plenty of interviews with developers and, well, other stuff. It's amazing the things you can find out after getting a developer drunk, taking them back to a hotel room and ... tickling them with the intensity of a Jack Bauer interrogation. It is certainly cruel and unusual, but it leaves no evidence. Remember that. Let's see what everyone's playing ...

  • Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): Think I'll play some Entrenchment this weekend. Still fiddling with the iPhone I just got. Looking at apps

  • Andrew Yoon: WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE! But mostly crying and rewatching BSG episodes.

  • Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): In a flurry of gaming madness, I will promise myself I'll finish Halo Wars as well as Uncharted. But let's be honest: I'm going to finish Uncharted and probably play 10 hours of Geometry Wars 2. Game of the Century, people!

  • Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant): I'll be honest ... probably nothing. I've finished the first 15 levels of Metal Gear Solid Touch (review forthcoming), so I may try my hand at furthering my Survival mode progress. Here's the thing: the larger my backlog grows, the more intimidating it becomes, and the less likely I am to carve out time to make a dent in it. ... Yes, I'm talking about you, Fallout 3.

  • David Hinkle (@davehinkle): My Gears 2 break-up goes on for another week, and I'll be gone from HQ for a majority of the weekend, so I doubt I'll be gaming much. I will have my DS with me, though, so I can answer the Retro Game Challenge when it comes calling.

  • Dustin Burg (@SuperDunner): Hopefully, I'll be able to finish up Resident Evil 5 over the weekend and, with a box of Sundried Tomato and Basil Wheat Thins, make some achievement progress on (the way too addictive) Peggle.

  • Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): I'll be on the road to Cincinnati this weekend -- the car trip should lend itself to extended Platinum pokecollection sessions. Also, Valkyria Chronicles is staring at me, longingly, from within its GameFly envelope. It's a bit unsettling, honestly.

  • James Ransom-Wiley: While nontraditional, the Resident Evil 5 subplot concerning Redfield's horrifying transformation into a haunted, Ferrigno-esque hero has filled in for the missing, classic creepiness. At this point, I'm playing to unlock the library files, hoping one will reveal more about our leading man's striking modification ... Certainly, hanging around these freakish monsters all the time has distorted his body image.

  • Jason Dobson (@eToyChest): After watching BSG wind down towards what I hope to be an explosion of Vipers and glowing spines, I'll be grinding my way through Suikoden Tierkreis and wondering why these people are talking so fast.

  • Jem Alexander (@Yembles): I'll be playing Watch Griffin's Reaction To Valkyria Chronicles On Twitter. It's a tragedy that more people haven't played that game. Also, between Patapon 2, Resistance Retribution and Silent Hill 1, it looks like I'll be spending a lot of time with my PSP.

  • JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): I get to play two weird rhythm games this weekend: Bit.Trip: Beat and ... Rhythm Heaven. Life is awesome.

  • Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): ...

  • Kevin Kelly (@gadgetguy): I'm not playing ANYTHING except "Return from SXSW" on Saturday. Then I'm counting sheep until GDC, unless I get crazy and download the Metallica demo.

  • Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): I'll be playing Resident Evil 5 with as many people as possible -- but never with the AI. Never.

  • Majed Athab: Going to finish RE5 and MadWorld this weekend.

  • Randy Nelson (@DangerPenguin): I'm still playing RE5, but that's just because I'm casually strolling through it, walking up to each and every enemy individually and attempting to somehow get through to them, but then I just shotgun 'em. I swear if I can't get at least one to cease their player-hating ways, I'll just spend my weekend playing iPhone and DS games instead.

  • Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): This week I will continue my love triangle with Halo Wars and Resident Evil 5. I hope they never find out about each other. Speaking of, Chris Redfield should just get himself a Warthog. They have infinite ammo! Beyond that, I'll be playing some Peggle XBLA and anxiously anticipating the Mac release of The Path.

  • Xav de Matos (@Xav): I'm too busy playing Resident Evil 5 and waiting for the series finale of Battlestar Galactica.

  • Justin Glow (@justinglow): (Justin has no time for this or emotions.)
