World of WarCrafts: Make your own leather blood elf ears

This World of WarCrafts has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW.com.

With the fabulous legion of blood elves dominating the Horde population, players are powerless to resist the appeal of the Sin'dorei. Even Alliance players find themselves watching their Orbs of the Sin'dorei, waiting impatiently for Fabulous Time to come off cooldown. My gift to you is your very own Orb of the Sin'dorei for personal use: leather blood elf ears. These babies are easily worn with a blonde wig -- for those of you who are not naturally fabulous -- or on a headband.

Follow us after the break for a step-by-step how-to gallery that shows you how to create your own fabulous leather blood elf ears!

Materials and tools:

  • smooth workspace (such as a granite cutting board or anything smooth and durable; you will be hammering on it!)

  • 2 sheets of letter paper taped together (length- or width-wise are both acceptable)

  • 2- to 3-oz. veg-tanned leather

  • heavy-duty shears

  • pen or pencil

  • hammer

  • spray bottle with water

  • contact cement

  • acrylic paint (optional)

  • headband or wig

Cut an isosceles triangle from paper, with the base measuring 8 inches and height measuring 13 inches. If you want a bit more room to work with, feel free to add an extra inch to each dimension; you can just cut the excess away. Round off the narrow tip of the triangle with your shears. This piece of paper will serve as your template. Feel free to practice the following directions on another template copy to get the folding technique down. When you feel ready, continue to the next steps with your leather hide.

Trace your template onto the back of the leather (the rough side) with a pen or pencil. Make two of these shapes. Cut them out with the shears, taking care to not scrape the face of the leather as you cut. You may choose to work on the ears side by side or one at a time. This tutorial will demonstrate side-by-side construction, and each ear represents a different step. The ear on the left side of each image is the right ear and vice-versa.
