Warner Bros. acquires MMO developer Turbine

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has acquired Turbine, developer of massively multiplayer online games Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online -- the latter of which has seen a resurgence after going free-to-play. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Warner Bros. has been on an acquisition bender in recent years, grabbing high-profile developers Monolith, TT Games, bits of Midway, Snowblind and, most recently, Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady Studios. Hints of WB's interest in Turbine go back to 2008 when the publisher invested millions in the developer.
