Mindjack hacks your head on January 18

Square Enix has announced a January 18 release date in North America for Mindjack, a once-delayed shooter that sees urban environments descend into anarchy and everyday citizens succumb to remote control. The commentary on our connected society might be about as subtle as a steamroller, but developer Feelplus Inc. will put the concept to use in its networked single-player campaign. When the non-player characters in your game lose control, they become puppets to online invaders, who can either aid or crush you.

Should that pique your curiosity -- along with that of your online friends or family -- you can pick up the game for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 when it launches. Oh, and if you head past the break, you'll encounter the latest trailer. We don't know yet if its bluster is indicative of the overall marketing campaign, or if Square Enix will get something more subversive and suited to the game's content. Mindjack is out in Japan on January 27.

Third-Person-Shooter Blurs the Line Between Single- and Multi-Player Action;

Available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on January 18, 2011

LOS ANGELES (November 2, 2010) -- Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in North America, has announced release dates for MINDJACK™, the Company's upcoming third-person shooter for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

The game, which is being developed in Japan by feelplus inc., will release in North America on January 18, 2011, followed by Japan on January 27.

MINDJACK is a unique action shooter that will push the boundaries of the third-person genre with its thrilling co-operative gameplay, mind control abilities and other incredible surprises. The game will effectively blur the line between traditional single- and multi-player gameplay, creating a campaign experience where non-playable characters can, at any moment, transform into human-controlled allies or gun-toting foes.

Set in 2031, MINDJACK throws players into the life of Jim Corbijn, a field agent with the Federal Intelligence Agency's elite "Direct Intervention Force." As Jim becomes embroiled in a clandestine war between governments and corporations, he employs futuristic technology that allows him to take control of other characters and machines within the game world by "hacking" into them.

As networked players join another gamer's single-player campaign through Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, they seamlessly transform the experience into co-operative multiplayer, instantly altering the challenge and game world, resulting in each game session being truly unique.

MINDJACK is rated M (Mature). Please visit the Entertainment Software Rating Board website at for more information about ratings.
