The Daily Quest: In review

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Way back in vanilla, I remember questing with a friend out in Azshara -- well, maybe "questing" is too strong of a term. It was more like "murdering mass amounts of dragonkin and grinding out XP" than real questing. While merrily stomping dragons, all of a sudden we heard a zone-wide yell from Azuregos, a new outdoor boss that had just been put in. My friend, being the hit-things-first-ask-questions-later type, decided to run up and smack the dragon in the face. After all, he reasoned, it was only a dragon. How hard could it be?

This was when we both learned the valuable lesson that creatures with ??? listed as their level should probably not be messed with unless you've got a substantial amount of backup. Oddly enough, I kind of miss those days.

Today, we've got some posts looking at different parts of Cataclysm and sharing some thoughts and reviews on the expansion.

Hey, bloggers! Wondering what it takes to be featured in The Daily Quest? The answers are after the break, so keep reading!

So you want to be featured in The Daily Quest, but you aren't quite sure how to go about it? It's not terribly complicated to get featured -- just follow this list of guidelines.

  • Keep your content current. If you're only updating once a month, it's a lot less likely that I'll find you when I'm trawling through the blogosphere.

  • Use good grammar and punctuation. This is absolutely important. Run your posts through a spellchecker, and check your grammar while you're at it. It doesn't need to be perfect, but if your posts are riddled with words that aren't spelled correctly, people aren't going to be able to understand what you're trying to say.

  • Keep it legible. Don't go overboard with crazy fonts or layouts. If the font is too hard to read, people aren't going to want to sit there and read it. Keep it simple; there's no need to be flashy.

  • Write about current news. Did a bit of news come out that's got you thinking? Write about it!

  • Network with other bloggers. A lot of times, I find new blogs simply by checking the links pages of blogs I've featured in the past. Take the time to get to know the blogging community, and share some links! A good place to go to get to know people is Blog Azeroth -- introduce yourself there, participate in the shared topics, and get to know the community. They won't bite, I promise!

  • Write about what you love. If you're simply writing a small post for the sake of throwing a post up, it's not really going to resonate with people. Find something you're really passionate about, and write about that -- it comes across when you do.

  • Don't be afraid to bring the funny. Humorous or quirky blog posts are every bit as entertaining as the passionate ones. Don't be afraid to inject a little humor every now and again!

  • Link, link, link! Feel free to link any blog posts you make that seem like they'd appeal to people in the comments section of The Daily Quest. Ignore the downvoting -- I like seeing people link their blogs here. I encourage it. I won't see you otherwise!

  • Email me. Got a new blog that you're passionate about? Email the link to me! I don't bite, either.

  • Don't get wrapped up with being linked. Don't be concerned with being linked; be concerned with what you are writing and making it the best possible stuff you can write.

I don't usually have a theme in mind when I put these posts together -- I simply surf, pick out the posts that stick out in my mind as interesting, and then come up with a theme that links them all together. Or sometimes I'll just put a bunch of random posts together just because I can't think of anything that links them together. There's no real trick to getting featured on The Daily Quest, other than writing about what you love and writing it well. Get to know your fellow bloggers, link things you'd love to share -- and most of all, have fun with your writing!
