World of Wardrobe: Hiking around Hyjal for tier 6

Heading back to pick up some awesome armor sets from vanilla WoW or that dazzling weapon that'll have your enemies cowering in fear? Transmogrification makes it possible -- and World of Wardrobe shows you how.

Tier 6 is the last tier that was released in The Burning Crusade -- and it's also got a unique twist. When the Sunwell raid was released at the end of the expansion, players looked forward to new armor and weapons. But what they got was an additional set of tier tokens for boots, belts and bracers for their tier 6 set. Oddly enough, the belts, boots and bracers weren't quite an exact match to the set itself -- check out the gallery for a look at the full five-piece set, plus the belts, boots and bracers from Sunwell Plateau. This set was the last to offer eight full pieces of gear; later sets would stick solely to the five-piece model.

However, getting all eight pieces of tier was a pretty substantial task. When Hyjal Summit was released, players had to kill the first boss in the zone as part of the atunement to enter Black Temple, the third raid to hold tier 6 tokens. At that point in time, Sunwell Plateau hadn't even been implemented, so nobody knew of the upcoming final three pieces of tier. Instead, players focused solely on moving through Mount Hyjal on their way to Black Temple, preserving the events of the past and collecting some pretty amazing loot in the process.

Tier 6

Tier 6 is spread out across Hyjal Summit, Black Temple, and Sunwell Plateau. It consists of five regular pieces, as well as three additional set pieces from the Sunwell raid. Tier 6 is the "Forgotten" set -- all tokens are listed as "of the Forgotten Vanquisher" for druids, mages and rogues; "of the Forgotten Protector" for hunters, warriors and shaman; and "of the forgotten Conqueror" for paladins, priests and warlocks. Tier sets for the different classes are as follows:

All tier tokens from both Hyjal Summit and Black Temple can be turned in at the Caverns of Time to Tydormu. When zoning into Hyjal Summit, players will first be placed in a cavern that will let them zone in to one of the three bases available; Tyrdormu paces back and forth inside this entrance cavern.

Caverns of Time: Hyjal Summit

Hyjal Summit is located in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Hyjal presented a different approach to raiding. For the first time, raiders saw a timed event of sorts. Trash packs had no real "pull" to speak of; the trash instead came to the raid in a series of timed waves, followed by bosses after the trash had been cleared. That said, clearing it these days is an utter breeze -- the only thing that limits players from mowing the dungeon down in 5 minutes is the timed trash packs. You must clear trash in order to spawn the bosses.

While Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep were full of intricate strategies and final bosses that pose problems at level 85, Hyjal really doesn't have that problem. I would not recommend soloing Hyjal if you're looking for a speed clear; if you take two or three people with you, you'll have it cleared out in no time. The trash itself poses very little problem other than the amount of time it takes for the trash to spawn. This can be easily solved by moving closer to the trash spawn points and mowing everything down as it spawns, instead of waiting for the trash to make the long trek to you. I'd also suggest taking at least one ranged class; some of the trash is of the flying variety.

In order to start the timed waves, a player must speak to the faction leader NPC at the base. Zoning in will place you at the Alliance base first; speak to Jaina Proudmoore to begin. Each base has two bosses, and the final boss, Archimonde, has no trash packs at all.

Rage Winterchill

Rage Winterchill will spawn when the first eight waves of adds are dead. At level 85, there is really nothing to worry about as far as this boss is concerned. Simply mow him down and collect your loot, preferably before the next trash pack spawns.

Tier drops Rage Winterchill doesn't have any tier loot to speak of.

Other items of interest Warlocks looking for a nice match to their tier 5 set may want to pick up the Cuffs of Devastation. Also available in cloth are the Bracers of Martyrdom, a snazzy looking set of red and black bracers. In fact, Winterchill has a lot of red and black bracers -- leather-wearing classes may like the ornate look of the Deadly Cuffs or the black, red and gold Rejuvenating Bracers. For mail-wearing classes, the Bracers of the Pathfinder are another red and black bracer option. Shaman may want to take a peek at the Stillwater Boots and Howling Wind Bracers; these items are a match to your tier 6 set.

Plate-wearing classes may like the Blood-Stained Pauldrons, a downright bizarre set of shoulders that include teeth as part of the design; the Blessed Adamantite Bracers, a purple and orange set; and the Furious Shackles, bracers in teal and gold. Dagger-wielding classes may like the look of the Tracker's Blade, a one-handed dagger with red accents and a demon's skull on the hilt. Casters may like the look of the Chronicle of Dark Secrets, a leather-bound book with a demon's head emblazoned on the cover.

Anetheron

Talk to Jaina again to start the next round. Killing another eight waves of trash will spawn the next boss, Anetheron. Anetheron does have an annoying Sleep spell, so make sure everyone is spread out. Other than that, there isn't too much to worry about with this boss; simply pummel him down, and you'll be staring at a loot table in no time at all.

Tier drops Anetheron also has no tier to speak of.

Other items of interest Warlocks, nab Anetheron's Noose for a belt match to your tier 6 set. For cloth classes who like the look of the warlock tier 6 set, the Hatefury Mantle offers a recolored version of the warlock shoulders. For priests, the Archbishop's Slippers offers a match to your tier 6 set, and druids should take a look at the Enchanted Leather Sandals for a match to your set as well.

Leather-wearing classes may like the look of Don Alejandro's Money Belt in blue and silver with gold accents. Mail classes should take a look at the Quickstrider Moccasins, black and brown boots with skulls emblazoned on the front. Mail-wearing classes who like the look of shaman tier 6 will want to pick up the Golden Links of Restoration, a recolored version of the chestpiece from the set. And for another unique plate shoulder option, the Glimmering Steel Mantle looks just like the Blood-Stained Pauldrons mentioned above, only this time in bright gold.

Anetheron is also carrying a few weapon items: the Blade of Infamy is a gorgeous, one-handed sword in red, gold, and silver; The Unbreakable Will is a frosty-looking, one-handed sword in shades of icy blues. For a shield option, the Bastion of Light is a pretty one; the shield is dark blue featuring silver scrollwork and a soft glow. And for those who wield staves, the Pillar of Ferocity is a lovely flowering staff that looks like it was made with a druid in mind.

Once Anetheron is dead, you'll need to talk to Jaina again to spawn the next camp. You'll have a short amount of time before you need to get out of the base entirely. Follow the path to the north to get to the next base camp, and speak to Thrall to start the next wave of trash. This trash includes gargoyles and frost wyrms that fly high above; they will need to be killed at range, or taunted down so melee can beat the stuffing out of them. Watch out for waves 2 and 4, as the gargoyles will spawn at the back of the camp rather than the front. Kill eight waves of trash, and the next boss will magically appear.
