SANYO's eneloop Marks its Total Global Shipment of 150 Million Batteries
Further promoting a `lifestyle that values reusing and recycling' with the eneloop rechargeable battery

Tokyo, January 5, 2011 - SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO), a world leader in rechargeable battery technology, is pleased to announce the total global shipment of eneloop rechargeable batteries reached 150 million at the end of December, 2010.

"eneloop" rechargeable batteries have received high market appraisal for having the characteristics of both dry cells and rechargeable batteries. The batteries come pre-charged and ready to use like a dry cell, and are economical and environmental as they are able to be recharged for repeated use as well as recyclable at the end of their lifecycle. According to a company survey, the satisfaction level of "eneloop" users is over 90%*1, and numerous companies now bundle "eneloop" batteries with their products. The sales of "eneloop" batteries in more than 60 countries worldwide is steadily growing year by year.

On November 14th, 2009, SANYO released an improved eneloop battery, rechargeable approximately 1,500 times*2 made possible by improvements in the materials, manufacturing method and structure of the battery. In addition, as part of the Green Power Certification System, SANYO pre-charges the batteries at the factory with clean energy generated by solar panels, embodying the eneloop concept of 'energy looping'. Furthermore, in June, 2010, SANYO added the "eneloop lite" rechargeable battery to the eneloop series. The eneloop lite is an entry model of the eneloop rechargeable battery with a lower capacity and price that can be charged approximately 2,000 times, the highest in the industry.

Since the initial release of the eneloop batteries, the design, concept and of course performance have been continually improved. November 14th, 2010 marked the 5th anniversary of the eneloop release in Japan. SANYO will continue to expand the "eneloop" series throughout the world so that people can comfortably adopt a new "lifestyle that values reusing and recycling" contrary to the popular "use and throw away" lifestyle.
