WRUP: Memories of a PAX East 2011 long gone by ...

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" -- otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!

This weekend feels weird. You see, I had spent the weekend prior caring for WoW Insider's own Mat McCurley, who was in town for PAX East. He crashed on my couch, along with my good friend Chester. We spent the whole weekend together at PAX East 2011. We caught up with Mike Sacco, played some Rock Band 3, got pancakes at 3am, and even danced with the brave WoW Insider readers who showed up at our impromptu meetup on Saturday night. In short, we had an absolute blast.

This weekend, though, there's no convention. There's no Mat McCurley sleeping on my couch, showing me pictures of his cats. It fills me with sadness, because PAX East 2012 is a long way away. In this week's edition of WRUP, we asked our intrepid bloggers whether they saw anything they liked at PAX East last weekend. It's a pretty loaded question, because there's a lot to like. Case in point: The amazing sound of Video Game Orchestra (as seen in the video above).

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) This is a weekend bereft of entertainment for me, but I'm alright with that -- I love my job, so working all weekend isn't too bad, really! I'm working to bring back a few oft-requested WoW Insider features (go ahead, try to guess), so that makes it even sweeter. When I'm not working on WoW Insider things, I'll be working out some kinks over at my side project, Nitpixels. Hopefully we'll get the new episode of the Nitpixels Podcast out a bit earlier this upcoming week!

My favorite bit of PAX was probably hearing about the WoW Insider meetup. It makes me all warm and tingly when I know you lot are having a good time.

Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) This weekend I'll be doing as much ZA and ZG as possible on the PTR to prep this Tuesday's Shifting. As for PAX, I'm really not much of a gamer, but I've enjoyed both the outbreak of bro-love from our team on the ground there, and also the pictures floating around of a really great Mass Effect 2 cosplay team (with the standout probably being Mordin). And this is coming from someone who's never even played ME2, mind you.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) Raiding this weekend, and I'll be trying to spend some time on the PTR to puzzle out some lore stuff. Other than that, probably cleaning a bit, but more likely I'll be playing the copy of FFVII for the PC that I found while cleaning out my closet.

Christian Belt (@ihatewarlocks) I'll be playing Game Dev Story on my phone, because that game is pure fun distilled into tiny, bite-sized nuggets you can partake of anywhere. And when I'm at home, and not watching basketball, I'll be playing copious amounts of Torchlight in between bouts of leveling my new goblin. Three guesses what class he is. Oh, and I didn't go to PAX, but I lusted pretty forcefully after Fez. The trailers and gameplay videos make that game look like it was designed just for me. I mean, rotating a 16-bit game world on a 360-degree axis? Here's my money guys. It is all yours.

Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) I'm trying to wean myself off of Dragon Age 2. I'm not succeeding. This weekend, I am a impatient warrior who hates demons and blood mages and won't take any of your foolishness. I am already planning a mage playthrough once that's done.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) My shaman is finally in Cataclysm content! I'll be pushing her to 85, as well as playing Ghost Trick on the DS.

Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) This weekend, I'm back to playing Radiant Historia. I just can't rave enough about this game. And when I'm not doing that, I'll be leveling my Horde druid in Eastern Plaguelands. I love what Blizzard did with the place.

As for the bonus question, I saw Mat McCurley at PAX this past weekend. I like Mat McCurley.

Joe Perez (@Lodurzj) I'll be getting my raiding legs back after a few days off and my adventures to PAX East 2011, looking forward to that. Trying to finish DA2 and I'm going to dive into some Pokemon action!

Bonus: I got to hang out with Fox, Sacco, McCurley and my co-hosts Seven and Thespius from Raid Warning which is always a blast, and I got to meet a ton of readers after the live show, and that is always exciting! Game-wise I got to play some truly awesome games. Got some hands on time with Duke Nukem Forever, Bastion, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Snapshot, SWTOR and so many others. The indie games though really stole the show. Games like Bastion and ITSP had such heart and depth that I couldn't help but keep coming back to their booths. I know I'll be buying both of those games for sure when they are released this summer.

Josh Myers (@Elamqt) Probably working on gearing up my unholy death knight some more. He just got his tier 1 Vicious Gladiator's Greatsword, and he looks awesome. For the bonus question, my life was conquered by Dragon Age 2 last weekend; there was no time for PAX coverage.

Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) Busy weekend as usual. Picked up Okamiden and Radiant Historia (this game better be good, Fox!), and...hmm. That's about it, actually. Just hit exalted with my guild, so I'm currently enjoying my Dark Phoenix mount and hatchling.

Lisa Poisso (@emused) Probably a few good old-fashioned heroics marathons with guildies, and hopefully boosting some up-and-coming friends through regulars and Wrath-level instances. Good people, good times.

Matt Low (@matticus) Replaying Mass Effect 2 again in anticipation of the upcoming DLC that bridges that with Mass Effect 3. Also picked up Homefront! Fun game so far when it comes to mindlessly shooting.

Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) I'm still recovering from the double-convention 2 weekends in a row of GDC and PAX, so it'll be a nice, quiet weekend. WoW, raiding, writing, and lots of cooking. I wanted to be wowed at PAX by The Old Republic but I wasn't, but I'm in love with Child of Eden. PAX was a lot of fun, and it was really nice meeting a bunch of fans.

Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) A friend recently returned to me my copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that he borrowed three years ago. I'm going to celebrate its homecoming with a marathon play session in Hyrule, this weekend.

Sarah Nichol (@mentalshaman) I will be participating in the live finale of the second season of The Obscurecast with my co-host Gazimoff and I believe we are being joined by Medros this week. I won't be playing much, aside from raiding on Sunday night, because I am feeling creative and I want to harness that energy while I've got it.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
