You see, when WoW was about to launch for the first time, I really didn't think I would play it for very long. I participated in the open beta -- and it was definitely better than I thought it was going to be -- but I wasn't that interested in a fantasy MMO. I loved playing City of Heroes and was hoping for a good science fiction MMO to replace Anarchy Online and Star Wars Galaxies in my life. AO was great until I tried a non-zoned MMO and then couldn't go back. Crossing an invisible line in Tir and suddenly zoning was painful. SWG was pure gaming heaven for a few months but got changed to the point where I no longer could play it. So, WoW was just the MMO to keep me busy for a while.
Almost eight years later (!!!), I am still happily playing -- though I have cheated with Star Trek Online briefly and am one of the few who seem to still like Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The Spousal Unit was and is a big Blizzard fanboy, so he dropped CoH like a hot potato and insisted on the Collector's Edition. The first few weeks of WoW, he and Mini Diablo went everywhere together. So very cute. But he really isn't into companion pets. Ever since then, we get one copy of the CE so that I can have the companions, and we can share everything else.
I have other companions to keep me happy, like Grunty the Murloc Marine, but I still wish I had a Mini Diablo of my own to follow me around.
