Myst gets Real on iPad

Myst gets Real on iPad

There is now yet another way for you to buy Myst. You may already have Myst on your iPhone or iPad, but now you can get an iPad version of RealMyst, the 2000 remake of the adventure game that presents the world in realtime 3D.

The new mobile version uses a new interface designed for the platform. "Instead of trying to awkwardly shoehorn a computer mouse interface or game console controller into the new touch environment - we were driven to design a simple touch interface that anyone could use." said producer Karl Johnson in the announcement. "The resulting interface allows the player to explore a 3D world with the ease of 'exploring' a 2D document on the iPad."

RealMyst is on the App Store now for iPad 2 and 3, at a promotional price of $6.99. At an unspecified future date, it'll go up to a permanent $9.99 price point.

Cyan Worlds announces the immediate availability of realMyst for the iPad 2 and the new iPad. realMyst - the realtime 3D version of Myst, joins the original Myst and Riven: the Sequel to Myst which are also available for iOS. realMyst delivers the rich story and gameplay of the original Myst in a visually and aurally stunning, dynamic, realtime 3D experience for the iPad 2 and the new iPad.
Myst was originally released in 1993 to both critical and popular acclaim. Its storyline, environments, graphics, music, and interface created an award winning experience that made it the best selling game of the last millennium and an App store favorite. realMyst shakes that original adventure forward - updating the journey to a state-of-the-art experience. The realtime 3D environment allows for complete freedom of motion and viewing - with seamless movement from place to place. The elegant touch control provides an almost invisible connection to the worlds of Myst.
"This is not your father's Myst," said Rand Miller, founder of Cyan Worlds. "To explore the islands and Ages of Myst in realtime... it's an amazing feeling. So much went into creating this experience - years of development, almost a gigabyte of textures, models, sounds, music, and video. This is a must-have App."
The ease of the realMyst interface belies the challenge that Cyan faced of creating a simple and elegant way for players to explore a 3D environment on a touchscreen device. "Instead of trying to awkwardly shoehorn a computer mouse interface or game console controller into the new touch environment - we were driven to design a simple touch interface that anyone could use." said Karl Johnson, Producer on the project. "The resulting interface allows the player to explore a 3D world with the ease of 'exploring' a 2D document on the iPad."
The realtime version also makes possible visual enhancements such as rippling water, waving branches, falling rain, moving clouds, and more. And the audio also benefits from realtime with sounds that emanate from specific locations and react realistically as the player explores. The addition of a new Rime Age provides a reward for completing the journey.
In celebration of the 19th anniversary of Myst, realMyst is being launched at a special price of $6.99US. It is available immediately for the iPad 2 and the new iPad on the iTunes App Store. For owners of other iOS devices the original Myst is available on the App Store for $4.99US.
