The Witcher 2 REDkit modding tools go into beta

If you want to try to make your own even Witchier Witcher adventure, you need to familiarize yourself with the new REDkit modding tools. And to help you do that – and to help build a robust modding tool – CD Projekt Red has opened up a beta for the toolkit.

Signups for the beta are being accepted here through September 30. The form has spaces for "Your website" and "Your mod samples," so you're probably more likely to make it to the top of the list if you have experience making your own levels or otherwise messing with your games.

The Witcher 2 – the most awarded game during
the European Games Awards ceremony gamescom 2012 – calls out to modders to join the REDkit beta testing program

CD Projekt RED, developers of The Witcher 2, started off this year's gamescom with a bang, dominating the European Games Awards and then following up with a well-received presentation of the REDkit, the mod engine for their award-winning RPG.

"We have our own vision for RPGs, they should present an exciting story and give players lots of choices that really matter. The REDkit is designed to create adventures that way – mature, non-linear and engrossing stories set in vivid worlds filled with believable characters." – said head of the studio Adam Badowski .

In the business section journalists were able to see the Witcher 2 toolset – REDkit. The editor allows modders to create adventures in the world of Geralt of Rivia. REDkit gives players the power to create detailed environments and complex, nonlinear quests as they tell their own Witcher story. Starting from today, modders from all over the world can apply for an early access to the REDkit by going to thewitcher.com/redkit before 30/09/2012

The REDkit is not the only project CD Projekt RED is working on. The studio is developing two triple-A RPGs: one is an as-yet unannounced game set in a dark fantasy world, and the other is the recently-announced Cyberpunk® RPG. During gamescom CD Projekt RED was looking for talented people with the experience and drive to make the best games in the industry offering relocation package and assistance for foreigners willing to move to Warsaw. Interested parties should apply with a resume and cover letter to: careers@cdprojektred.com

The Witcher 2 for PC earned dozens of awards and continues to impress on Xbox 360®. At the European Games Awards the Witcher 2 was nominated in 9 out of 22 categories and finally became the most awarded game during the European Games Awards ceremony. The Witcher 2 won 6 prizes: Best European Art Direction, Best European Game World, Best European Game Design, Best European Special Edition, Best European Character Design and, most gratifyingly, Best European Game.

Badowski continued, "The Witcher series is based upon the epic stories of Andrzej Sapkowski, and is inspired by the dark times of the Medieval era and the history of Europe. This inspiration gives the series its complex feel, and we're thrilled that it has resonated with players all around the continent. I'm very happy to see that so many gamers supported us and that we won so many awards. Thanks to all our fans!"
