Your smartphone and / or tablet is just begging for an update. From time to time, these mobile devices are blessed with maintenance refreshes, bug fixes, custom ROMs and anything in between, and so many of them are floating around that it's easy for a sizable chunk to get lost in the mix. To make sure they don't escape without notice, we've gathered every possible update, hack, and other miscellaneous tomfoolery we could find during the last week and crammed them into one convenient roundup. Official Android updates

  • LG Viper 4G LTE: Sprint's LTE-equipped handset for eco-minded folks is now eligible for an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, which is available as an over-the-air download. [Sprint]

  • Sony Xperia U: Sony has announced the availability of Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia U owners in Canada, which must be installed via the manufacturer's PC Companion utility. [MobileSyrup]

  • Panasonic Eluga: It's not every day that you'll come across a new system update that's downloadable from Google Play, but that's exactly the approach that Panasonic has taken for the Android 4.0 refresh of its waterproof Eluga smartphone. [Android Police]

Unofficial Android updates, custom ROMs and misc. hackery

  • Motorola Droid RAZR HD: A pre-release build of Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) has leaked for the HD refresh of Verizon's popular RAZR smartphone.   • LG Optimus 2X: LG may have burned a bridge with Canadian Optimus 2X owners with its decision to not provide an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, but Fido subscribers can now move into the world of Jelly Bean, as the CyanogenMod team has added the Tegra 2 smartphone to its roster of nightly releases.   • BlackBerry Bold 9900: Rogers Wireless has released BlackBerry OS 7.1.0.746, which is said to bring the ability to change the LED notification color from within the profile settings. [CrackBerry]
