App updates you don't want to miss -- January 16 edition

It has been busy in the App Store with a bunch of app updates landing on iOS and OS X. Grab a cup of joe and check out our list of notable updates from the week or so.

iOS Updates

KitCam [iPhone, Category: Photography & Video, $0.99] KitCam is a virtual camera kit that contains an amazing assortment of lenses, films, and frames. Version 1.3 brings the following changes:

  • Launching and resuming KitCam is much faster.

  • Crashes on launch due to resuming taking too long has been resolved.

  • Instagram tags.

  • Sound effect is now played when starting and stopping video or timelapse recording.

  • Camera hardware and software information have been added to photo EXIF data.

  • Battery warnings and other notifications will no longer stop video and timelapse recordings.

  • Single shutter button will fire on release rather than on press when in non continuous mode.

  • Timelapse recordings now give better indication of when they are actively recording.

  • Crooked horizon level when using the stabilizer mode has been fixed.

  • Default email subject and message can now be set from the Email settings on the settings screen.

  • Default Twitter share message can be set from the Twitter settings on the settings screen.

  • Increased the maximum video upload size for those devices that have more available memory.

  • Auto archived videos now get named properly instead of being named as if they were photos.

  • Loads more minor visual bugs fixed.

PDF Expert - Fill forms, annotate PDFs [iPad, Category: Productivity, $9.99] PDF Expert lets you read and annotate PDF documents, highlight text, make notes, and more. Version 4.5 brings the following changes:

  • Annotate images

  • Full screen reading Performance improvements

TrueMetronome [iOS Universal, Category: Music, $2.99] TrueMetronome's unique engine creates perfect beats with zero latency. Version 1.1 brings the following changes:

  • Louder sound

  • Minor bugs fixed

Poster - a WordPress blog editor [iOS Universal, Category: Social Networking, $2.99] Easily and quickly post to and manage your WordPress blog. Version 2.0 brings the following changes:

  • Support for custom post types. Enable them for any WordPress.org blog within the settings.

  • Poster is now localized for English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish

  • Edit a post's excerpt

  • Set posts as sticky

  • Edits to published posts can now be saved locally before re-publishing

  • Insert images at a specific location in a post by tapping and holding in the editor

  • Option to remove a post's featured image

  • Re-order your blogs within the interface

  • Improved URL scheme with support for a callback URL

PlayBox Live [iPhone, Category: Music, Free] PlayBox is a Music Social network that allows you to enjoy & discover new music trends. Version 2.0 is an all new version with social features like:

  • Follow your friend's activity on PlayBox.

  • Get the most popular playlists worldwide.

  • Discover the top new music videos watched worldwide.

  • See what videos are being played by your friends

  • Share videos you watch to your Facebook Timeline & Twitter account.

  • See what playlists & albums your friends are playing.

  • Dear old users, this is a new app just for you. unfortunately this update will erase all your old playlists, so please back them up in the settings screen.

Instant: The Polaroid Instant Camera [iPhone, Category: Photography & Video, $0.99] Instant, the popular Polaroid app on Mac and iPad, has finally come to iPhone. Version 1.0.2 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed the critical bug that sometimes text was repositioned when saved or exported

Hogworld: Gnart's Adventure [iOS Universal, Category: Books, $4.99] Hogworld is an interactive story about the adventures of a shy little hogbunny named Gnart. Version 1.5 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed Minor and Major Bug Issues

  • NEW User Interface, rebuild from the ground up.

  • 2 New Chapters.

  • 1 New Minigame.

  • In-App Developer Feedback system.

  • Redesigned gameplay features

  • More understandable Intro sequence.

  • New App Icon, Title Opening and More.

Cut The Rope [iPhone, Category: Games, $0.99] Cut the rope to feed candy to little monster Om Nom. Version 2.1 brings the following changes:

  • New Steam Box with 25 new levels, featuring a fun new way to get candy into Om Nom's mouth.

Cut The Rope HD [iPhone, Category: Games, $3.99] Cut the rope to feed candy to little monster Om Nom. The HD version for the iPad was also updated with the changes noted above.

Angry Birds Space [iPhone, Category: Games, $0.99] Angry Birds floating in a strange new galaxy – surrounded by space pigs. Version 1.4.0 brings the following changes:

  • Make a splash in 30 NEW LEVELS.

  • Get ready for the ultimate underwater boss level.

  • Three-star levels for 3 new bonus levels.

  • Use Flock of Birds for a pack of destruction.

  • Create black holes with Space Egg.

  • Expand the pigs with Pig Puffer.

  • Check back daily for a free power-up.

  • Power-up specific leaderboards in addition to regular leaderboards.

Angry Birds Space HD [iPad, Category: Games, $2.99] Angry Birds floating in a strange new galaxy – surrounded by space pigs. The HD version for the iPad was also updated with the changes noted above.

OS X Updates

Tweetdeck [OS X, Category: Social Networking, Free] TweetDeck makes it easier for publishers, marketers and power users to track real-time conversations on popular social networks. Version 2.3.1 brings the following changes:

  • Performance upgrade for displaying multiple high-velocity columns

  • Embed this Tweet right from the Tweet itself, for use in blogs and webpages

  • Introduction of a new search box with Typeahead and People Search

  • Ability to reduce the app window to 2 columns

Lively Logic [OS X, Category: Productivity, $49.99] Lively Logic helps you analyze data and present it in beautiful graphs and charts. Version 1.1 brings the following changes:

  • This version adds support for trend lines, automatic axis scaling, and panning and resizing graphs by dragging their axes.

  • It also improves the speed and reliability of data importing and updates the interface for Retina displays.

Tweetbot [OS X, Category: Social Networking, $19.99] Tweetbot is a full-featured Mac OS X Twitter client with a lot of personality. Version 1.1.1 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed persistent crasher that could happen after a system crash

  • Fixed issue where you couldn't use the shift key in a global hot key

  • Fixed issue where pressing global new tweet hot key would not make app active if needed

  • Fixed smart quotes

  • Fixed page up/down keys now stop on tweet row boundaries

  • Fixed missing sounds for some user interface actions

  • Fixed bug dragging main or secondary windows over main menu to get to another screen (really this time)
