WRUP: Killing time over the weekend and waiting for a patch

WRUP Killing time over the weekend and waiting for a patch

It seems inevitable that the dog days of summer includes long, hot waiting periods between patches. We're all busy soaking up the sun and patiently anticipating the release of patch 5.4. So for this week's bonus question, we asked the intrepid WoW Insider staff how they're killing time until that patch drops.

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) In WoW, I'm still slowly leveling all of my level 85 alts. I hope my rogue is still my main in the next expansion, but I want a stable of 90s to choose from if my mind changes before then. I would hate to have only one 90 and no urge to play it, being forced to play through MoP leveling again while everyone else is blazing through the next one. Outside of WoW, I'm working through the many indie games I picked up during the recent Steam sale. Still in the middle of Mark of the Ninja.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I might work on squirreling away a bit more valor, but other than that, my WoW plans this weekend are pretty nonexistent. I just picked up Animal Crossing: New Leaf, so that's occupying my time while I'm not doing other things - but I have a new kitchen sink to install this weekend and more painting to get done, so I might not even get around to playing that!

Chase Hasbrouck (@alarondruid, @alaronmonk) I've taken a break from raiding, so there's not too much left to interest me in-game at the moment. About the only thing I'm doing is working on a personal challenge I've set myself to clear all the Isle of Thunder rares in 20 minutes or less: got sub-21 last week, so I'm almost there. Otherwise, I'm currently on vacation with family, so just playing some light games: I picked up all the Penny Arcade RPG's and am working my way through those.

Dan Desmond (@Antigen_) I might level my monk a bit more, though I just hit Northrend and I can already tell it's going to be really tedious (even with the level 70-80 XP reduction), so I might spend some more time building and launching poorly designed rockets into orbit in Kerbal Space Program.

My guild and I aren't so much waiting for 5.4 as we are trying to get as much done before it drops. We just got our first heroic Iron Qon kill on Monday so now we're working on Twin Consorts. It's crunch time!

Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) I'm working on justifying my Steam Summer Sale purchases. Evoland and Dust are on the menu right now, though I'm spending most of my time playing Final Fantasy VII. It's still not my favorite Final Fantasy (That privilege goes to VIII), but it's still sorta fun.

In WoW, I'm spending most of energy leveling my monk alt, but I've slacked off on playtime, not gonna lie.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I picked up some stuff on the Steam sale, and while I'm still mad that Dragon Age 2 isn't available through there, I'll be working my way through Awakening and messing around with Borderlands 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur. I'm really starting to prefer PC gaming to console.

I'm still on a WoW break.

Joe Perez (@lodurzj) Honestly, no clue what I'm going to play this weekend. I'm open to suggestions, so if our readers think I should be playing anything in particular let me know!

I have been playing a lot of pet battles and finishing up my rep grinds while waiting for the patch to drop. Also starting to get interested in Hearthstone with some of the mechanics they're showing off, so I'm catching up on news for that.

Kristin Marshall (@kristin) I'm playing a bit of WoW this weekend -- LFR and hopefully finishing the final two levels on my monk! (I feel like I've been saying that every weekend for a few weeks now.) Bonus: My guild is pushing for at least 12/13 H this tier before 5.4 drops. Crossing my fingers! We're in for plenty of wipes with H Dark Animus and Lei Shen.

Matt "Matticus" Low (@matticus) Get some more League of Legends time in. Advanced from Bronze to Silver! Does anyone else play? Must find more people! Also going to run another play through of Saints Row: The Third in anticipation of Saints Row 4.

Matthew Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) I'm writing some stuff.

I'm still raiding in WoW. I never really seem to stop. I've been in like four guilds since Cata started and I just keep moving around, like a Ronin.

Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) Probably be playing some Civ 5, and a little WoW. Mostly some CMs on Sunday with guildmates. Not doing anything special while I wait for 5.4 -- still doing the usual stuff in game -- although I have been purposefully stocking up valor points and hopefully capping so I can buy new vendor gear ASAP.

Michael Gray (@writegray) I'm aiming to finish up this Spec Op in Avengers Alliance. With a little luck, I'll be ready for the new PvP season.

Olivia Grace (@oliviadgrace) I'll be playing some WoW, I'm determined to get the Timeless Coins for the Censer of Enduring Agony, the new Timeless Isle PvP item, and go gank some 90s. But I also started playing SMITE during the week, and oh my god it's so much fun! It's a non-isometric MOBA, where everything's a skill-shot, and I love it. So some of that too, and no raid sunday as we're celebrating my younger, but not littler, brother's birthday. I am sort of in a weird place with regard to 5.4, I am very much looking forward to it, but I'm actually playing it quite a lot on the PTR, so I'm kind of in it already! I'm still playing plenty of WoW, though, it's rare that I do anything but that.

Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) I'll be attending a wine tasting and hanging out with the Yarnover Truck on Saturday. Sunday's playtime will probably be spent pet battling. Bonus: Pet battles.

Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) My husband's uncle is in town so I probably won't get much video game playtime this weekend. Other than that I've been playing WoW and Final Fantasy VI where I can.

I've been spending patch time lead-up on the PTR mostly! I hope it won't have ruined me for the actual patch by the time it drops. The Timeless Isle has been loads of fun so far, I want it to stay that way.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
