WRUP: Exciting new Pokémon features edition

One of your starters turns into a fat kid, so that's awesome.

So it looks as if I'm actually going to be picking up the new Pokémon game on launch, which will have already happened by the time you read this. What can I say? I'm kind of interested in the new features that are being added to the game, like the fact that you can actually customize your character (insofar as you can be "pale" or "slightly not so pale").

Beyond that, it's the first game in the series with 3-D renderings of these creatures as long as you ignore all of the other spin-offs that did the same thing. And not only do you start with one of the three ubiquitous new starter types, you can also pick up a second starter type later on so that you have two special critters sitting in your bank unused!

What was I talking about? Oh right -- it's WRUP time again. You can check out our play plans past the break and let us know yours in the comments. (Seriously, I will be playing Pokémon.)

@Beau_Hindman: I'm looking at World of Battles for Rise and Shiny next week, so I'll be prepping for that over the weekend. I want to explore my level 85 in EverQuest II as well and will kill some Vanu in PlanetSide 2. On top of that, I need to try to convince my nephews to play in my Deepworld world if I can pull them away from Minecraft at all.

@nbrianna: I didn't play anything during my vacation, and aside from painful pangs about City of Heroes and Star Wars Galaxies, I didn't really feel a pull from any living games, either. I think this weekend I'll take a long, hard look at my games folder, purge it, and dip my toes into something distractiony that doesn't remind me how badly I'd rather be playing those two games that anything else on my hard drive.

Distractiony is a perfectly cromulent word.

@Eliot_Lefebvre: I already said what I'm playing! Well, and Final Fantasy XIV, but duh, right? (I think training animals to fight will be a nice sideline while gathering.)

Jasmine Hruschak, Multimedia Contributor

@irljasmine: This weekend is still all about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Now that I've maxed out my preferred job and crafting skill, I've turned my attention toward gathering. My future holds a few million mouse clicks as I gather chestnut after chestnut leveling Botany. At least this is proving to be a bit more profitable than the monetary black hole of Weaving.

@Sypster: I will most likely be reconnecting with my Lore-master in Lord of the Rings Online, as she just started her journey through the newly revamped Moria. Here's hoping it'll be a smooth ride! I'm also struggling with whether to pursue my Illuminati alt or my Dragon alt or simply keep stacking up the AP with my Templar in The Secret World. Here's hoping Issue #8 is next week!

Mike Foster, Contributing Editor

@MikedotFoster: I have friends coming in from out of town, but if I can spare a moment I'll be checking in on my Guild Wars 2 Guardian and perhaps running some World of Warcraft dungeons.

MJ Guthrie, Columnist Extraordinaire and Contributing Editor

@MJ_Guthrie: After a week with very little gaming, I am looking forward to delving into The Secret World. I am finding it harder to balance time between my personal Templar and my streaming Illuminati. They are much closer now in AP and gear, but getting them both through The Whispering Tide event may be too much for me (so many tokens needed for that pet). I also want to put more time into EverQuest II; I have many housing projects that are in dire need of attention before EverQuest NextLandmark seduces me away. If time allows, I might pop back into Lord of the Rings Online and lament how far I still am from Rohan.

Richie Procopio, Multimedia Contributor

@RichieProcopio: This weekend is all about the Hearthstone beta. I just got my invite, and I'm already hooked. I'll also be helping my kids level up their Skylanders figures in preparation for the release of Swap Force next week. My poor, poor wallet.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
