GaymerX2 funded, upcoming event to feature WWE guest Darren Young

All-inclusive gaming convention GaymerX2 met its funding goal in the first 48 hours of its recently launched Kickstarter campaign, securing July weekend dates for the upcoming San Francisco event.

Launched last year, GaymerX is an LGBTQ-friendly expo celebrating diversity and inclusivity in gaming. Along with a series of panel discussions, this year's convention will feature a gaming space curated by IndieCade, a multi-musician concert, and a guest appearance by Fred Rosser (WWE Superstar Darren Young). The event will also host a public wedding, following up on a proposal accepted during last year's GaymerX.

Organizers note that tickets will likely sell out prior to the event, making the Kickstarter project a reliable way to reserve entrance badges. Though the convention's initial funding goal has been met, continued backer support will fund additional bands, celebrity appearances, and game tournament prizes, among other announced stretch goals.

GaymerX2 Announces New Fundraising Campaign and Partnership with IndieCade To Take Gay Gaming to the Next Level

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 19, 2014) -- MidBoss, the team behind the convention known as GaymerX2, is excited to announce that they've launched a new fundraising campaign featuring celebrities like WWE's Darren Young, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and indie game curators IndieCade.

After a huge debut year for the first GaymerX with over 2,300 gamers attending from around the world, GaymerX2 will be held at the San Francisco InterContinental Hotel over the course of three days, July 11-13. Special "Bosses of Honor" will include openly gay wrestler Fred Rosser aka Darren Young of WWE, BioWare's David Gaider, Mattie Brice, Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian, Gordon Bellamy, Jaime Woo, and John Scalzi. Additionally, Logo TV will return as the presenting media sponsor of GaymerX.

The beautiful venue boasts nearly triple the convention space of last year's venue, along with two huge ballrooms, a spa, pool, and a Presidential Suite that is known to host--you guessed it-- President Obama.

"We are excited to be able to provide a safe space for all gamers much in the way an LGBT film festival, or other queer events do. GaymerX is a place where we can express, explore, and celebrate various forms of diversity in the gaming medium, and we welcome everybody to join us," quoted Toni Rocca, President of GaymerX. "The fact that we've got people like IndieCade and Darren Young supporting us shows that there are larger organizations that are starting to support their queer audiences."

Along with a gaming space curated by IndieCade, the convention will host more card, board, and video games as well as panels from awesome game developers, AAA and Indie companies, journalists, and fun characters from the gaming world. There will also be several events such as a cosplay contest, concert, and even a wedding. Last year, a surprise proposal took place during GaymerX in the middle of Voice Acting 101, sung by Ellen McLain as GLaDOS to the man's boyfriend. This time around, the couple will be having a Gaymer Wedding at the convention and attendees will be welcome to join in.

"I am very excited to be a part of this year's GaymerX convention," quoted Fred Rosser aka WWE's Darren Young. "Gay geeks and gamers around the world deserve to have their own community and I'm very proud to be a part of what should be an awesome experience."

"With a focus on the LBGT community, the GaymerX gaming convention represents the broadening, the diversity, and the impact gaming has made in cultures around the world. We [IndieCade] have always embraced and enabled the discovery, the support, and the celebrationof independent game creators and artists from all different cultures and are thrilled to be a part of this fantastic event." --IndieCade
