One Shots: Avian servitude

rift

Birds? I don't hate them, but I don't trust them either. Anything that can travel passportless with impunity is something to be wary of, especially if it has access to flight without clearing it with the FAA. And ever since the bird flu scare, I'm quite sure that our feathered "friends" are out to eradicate our entire race.

That said, I'm happy for reader Bill because he's finally putting birds where they belong: under us in full service of their land-masters. "Luck has found me again on RIFT patch day when this 'Lovely Budgie" popped out of a box. I can't help but think there is evil hidden beneath pink feathers and those big black eyes!" Bill wrote.

Oh, but there is evil, Bill. No doubt about it. Hopefully the rest of this week's player-submitted screenshots will not reek of foul intent the way that this cute birdie does.

If you deeply care about the ability to sit in an MMO, then odds are 100% that you're a roleplayer. I don't exactly know what it is about sitting that is so crucial to pretending that you're a one-eyed ex-pirate who has a jilted lover, a 30-year mortgage, and a secret past that may or may not tie you to the royal bloodlines, but there it is.

Reader François is overjoyed that players can finally pop a squat in Star Wars: The Old Republic: "Here is my Cathar Irsanne, from The Ebon Hawk, making good use of the sitting emote that was just introduced into the game. She is staring pensively at that holochess table about her ship, perhaps longing for a partner."

At first glance, I thought that the following picture was some sort of boss lair in WildStar. So I am incredibly impressed to find out that this squicky place is actually a player house that uses an overabundance of eyeballs.

"Here we have Doctor Sobek's private chambers in his disturbingly Strain-infected basement," reader William submitted. "I spent a lot of gold on this room just to have all of those ever-blinking, ever-watching eyes, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out."

Getting a picture of your character and your starship in the same shot is actually quite tricky in Star Trek Online (or at least it used to be), which is why this submission is kind of cool. "Here is freighter captain Hannah Welch of the S.S. Aurora finding the Enterprise-C locked down for study by the Tholians in 'Temporal Ambassador,'" reader Chris sent in.

This was one of my favorite new missions in the game, probably because it was a sequel to one of The Next Generation's best episodes, Yesterday's Enterprise.

Our screenshot challenge of the week is to take a picture of your character saying goodbye. Maybe it's her last time in the game, or maybe she's leaving a zone for good, or maybe she just likes waving to the camera. You can do it!
