WRUP: Exploring an all-new Hallow's End

The holiday season of Hallow's End is once again upon us, and this year we get a special treat: after a few years of the same old holiday, Hallow's End has gotten some updates. This year, you've got new loot to spend your Tricky Treats on, including costumes and new pets. We may still be a few weeks out from Warlords of Draenor, but new holiday collections do give us something to do.

So just how is Team WoW Insider tackling this updated holiday? Read on and we'll tell you all about it! Plus, be sure to jump down to the comments to tell us just what you're playing this weekend.

Adam Koebel (@BendakWoW) Patch 6.0 did get me playing again. The fact that everything was nerfed -- from old raid soloing to Siege of Orgrimmar -- has made it a lot more accessible for me to do this content on my alts. Recently I've had a lot of fun helping guildies and some others get their Garrosh heirloom weapons. These are usually very casual players who would otherwise not have the means, and they get so excited when they get their heroic Garrosh heirloom. The SoO nerf has made it possible to bring in several inexperienced and/or undergeared players under the wing of a few experienced ones so they can experience this content for themselves. I have to say I also really like this new personal loot option for normal and heroic, but I may be biased since it's giving me Warforged loot left and right. It's been a lot of fun. As for Hallow's End, I don't think I'm going to farm up the 500 treats for the costume, at not least not this year. I'd be more inclined if there was a permanent version with a longer cooldown. I'll grab at least one of the new pets, or both if I decide to re-do all the candy buckets. Either way, I'm glad the game holidays are all getting a little refresher.

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) Patch 6.0 has brought me back into the game for sure. I actually find the Warlords pre-event dull beyond belief -- it feels like they put no effort into it -- but the expansion hype encouraged me to do older content I'd previously overlooked. I've been a bit too busy to really dig into Hallow's End, though. Those prizes will need to wait until next year.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I have been playing a lot more WoW lately, mostly working on old raid achievements that I never picked up, and farming for mounts and toys that I didn't have yet. Hallow's End is my eternal nemesis, but I'm working on getting the two new pets so I get something out of the holiday, even if it isn't the horse I've been after since it was put in the game.

Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) This Sunday will be my last raid night before the expansion since I'm going on vacation next week. Other than WoW and beta I'll probably only have time for mobile games this week (finally restarted Plants vs. Zombies 2). I want to get back to Child of Light but haven't had the time. I've read about the Hallow's End changes but haven't had a look at them myself yet. I'll definitely try to get all the new stuff done this weekend if I have the time, but I'm prioritizing beta leveling before beta goes away. Beta leveling is the only time I'll read quests and enjoy the process so it's important for me to get it done. When the expansion launches I usually just want to speed through it all to get ahead of the crowd and be done with it.

Elizabeth Harper (@faience) I've done a bit of playing since 6.0, but I haven't had as much time to dig into it, or into Hallow's End, as I'd like. I hope I'll find time to pick up the new pets this year, but I'm off on vacation next week and it may have to wait for next Hallow's End.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I'm on one of my periodic WoW breaks, mainly due to the new Borderlands coming out, and my continuing adventures with Fallout: New Vegas. I also need to give Dishonored another shot.

Matthew Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) Hoping to get to play some WoW this weekend, have been somewhat ill. As for Hallow's End, don't care even a little. My caring is so infinitesimal that even writing this much about it has far exceeded the amount of caring I can actually manifest for the holiday. It is, to me at least, beyond unimportant -- it breaches the wall of apathy and drives deep into the utter void of concern, a fantastical place where literally any other subject -- the price of rare fruits, a tea cup shaped like the Hulk's head, a discussion of Gynandromorph Finches, the taste of baker's chocolate, the Altay mountains -- is of more concern to me than the in-game holiday we are discussing. There is simply nothing in all existence I find less interesting than this holiday. Nothing. Even nothing itself is in fact more interesting -- for it is conceptually something I can muse about.

Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) I've actually had a chance to play a bit recently! It's been lots of fun. Trying to figure out which toon to boost to 90 now that WoD is so close. Also been working on Hallow's End stuff to get the two new kitties -- I picked up Widget last night. So cute!

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play
