The Queue: Professions, BlizzCon, and Asking Questions

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

I'm back from BlizzCon and fully rested.

Let's do this, Warlords!

Magruun asked:

I don't quite understand the small plots in your garrison. I have Alchemy and Inscription on my character. should I build the buildings for those 2 professions or is it better to pick 2 buildings for professions I don't have? What are the advantages/disadvantages for picking one way or another exactly?

By picking plots that line up with your own professions, you'll gain extra cooldowns on the important stuff. This can be super advantageous in the early expansion end-game, when crafted gear is critical to raid success.

You'll also need a garrison building of your profession in order to access the highest tier of craftable gear. In other words, make two out of the three crafting buildings match up with your professions. You'll be glad you did.

Logan asked:

What did you think of BlizzCon?

I'm going to be honest here. From a WoW perspective, it wasn't very good. I didn't think that they said anything interesting at all about Warcraft, and it annoys me that there wasn't an expansion announcement. There's a lot of need to keep the WoW train moving forward at a good pace, and if it's true that this expansion will only have one additional raiding tier, then we really need to know what's going to happen in the next 12 to 18 months now.

I suspect, like Alex, that we'll get an expansion announcement outside of BlizzCon.

Now, from the non-WoW perspective, this was all about Overwatch, and that was great. Yes, there was other stuff for Hearthstone, Diablo, and Heroes of the Storm, but the main focus and new information was centered around Overwatch. Do I think BlizzCons where there is no WoW announcement are the strongest? No, I don't. Not by a long shot. But this is what Blizzard decided to do, and such is life.

jPec asked:

So I've figured out how to get the folks here to answer my questions (it's kind of formulaic), but how do I go about getting Blizzard to answer my questions in these Q&A sessions?

You can just ask your question, along with everyone else. There's nothing magical to getting your question answered. There's an absolute ton of them that get asked, and it's kinda of luck if you get answered or not.

One thing you can do is make sure that your questions are asked in a positive, detailed, and non-confrontational way. That'll make you stand out from all the "OMG why not nerf paladins!eleventyone!!11." They get a lot of that (because Paladins need to be nerfed).
